  1. This is the rant of someone who’s never had to sacrifice anything or even think about anyone other than themself. Just grotesque.

  2. And people that do NOT stay at home and social distance and sacrifice a little for the common good can be robbing people of their lives. No life then there is no liberty. Period. Also I "suspect" that given your last sentence attacking the overwhelming majority of Americans doing the right thing that you know absolutely nothing about empathy or even basic science. YOU are not the only one sacrificing. And YOU are obviously not on the front lines risking your life everyday like out health workers and first responders or even the support troops of essential workers. YOU don't care

  3. Callous take. If one of your relatives were denied treatment in the ER because the hospitals were overrun with covid cases so you could have your fun, I suspect you might begin to see things differently.

  4. Maybe some are protesting for this reason. I know a guy who had stage 2 colon cancer. He’s had some concerns recently and wants to be seen. But it’s not emergency and therefore he can’t. He is angry and supports the protesters. As always, these things are extremely nuanced, yet everyone just wants to scream “JUST STAY HOME. DO WHAT YOURE TOLD. STOP BEING SELFISH!” With zero room for nuance. Not unexpected for an online forum I suppose, but frustrating nonetheless.

  5. My pre-draft RB ranks, spent way more time on this incoming class than usual, lots of video and internet sources plus the SIS handbook (which is outstanding): 1) Jonathan Taylor, out in front by a ways. The fumbling can be corrected in the pros and he can absolutely operate in the passing game. Not a classic power guy, but gets thru arm tackles from even the biggest guys on defense, quicker laterally than he gets credited for and can burst by fastest DBs and hit the home runs. 2) Clyde Edwards-Helaire, like his route chops and versatility in all phases. Runs with strength and great l

News from Germany. we reopened small businesses today. next week schools will continue for students to graduate (because they are older and should be able to follow distancing rules). after 2 weeks reevaluation of the Situation and if positive, reopen will continue. beaches and crowded places are closed and will be closed longer. personal opinion: you are flat out crazy to reopen beaches in your Situation. someone who did this here, political Career would be over immediatly. for Sports (Soccer first, Bundesliga, only Soccer really matters for germans). talks ongoing. 7. Dude, this is a temporary thing. No one is locking anyone up for life. Individual liberty is important, but when is it ok for your liberty to hurt a common good? Do you think these stories of hospitals being overrun are all made up? I know it sucks but people need to be smart about this, or it's going to get worse and take longer to get through. And honest to God your empathy only applies when someone pays your bills? Edit: to reiterate, I approve opening up the economy in places that arent being ravaged by the virus right now. However, I dont think people should

  8. Definitely. The financial hardship, including the massive unemployment numbers, have been discussed here a lot. What I don't think people understand is that reopening businesses doesn't force customers to show up. Maybe there will be a spike as people rush to hair stylists and dentists, but a lot of the public is still going to proceed with caution, meaning demand is not going to return to pre-lockdown levels for a very long time. Just as a second wave of infections can happen, so too can a second wave of layoffs when business owners don't get the jolt they might be expecting.

  9. My girlfriend has a lump in her throat she's worried about and she can't get to see her doctor. Now, the chances of it being something serious are probably pretty small. But multiply issues like this across the country/world and some percentage of them will end up being serious and won't receive proper treatment. This isn't to say we shouldn't be doing what we're doing now. If no effort was made to "flatten the curve" there's a negative outcome to that too. Just pointing out another example of , if you're sole focus is just preventing lives lost to the virus, there's going to be fall out els

  12. China: you need to follow 8 weeks of a strict quarantine and then you can carefully open up the economy. Healthcare workers need to have ample PPE and everyone should wear masks outside the house. United States: we can agree to 4 weeks of social distancing but we want unlimited takeout and trips to the park. When we run out of Tiger King episodes we’re gonna riot if this cornteen isn’t over. And healthcare workers you get 1 mask and you’ll have to reuse it for weeks.

  13. Very well said sir. Just checked out the pictures in the link above by shakestreet. I didn’t see many “I lost my job” type of signs, granted, there were some, but a lot more “I have rights!” Whether I agree or disagree with that thought process, I can understand the rationale behind those. The ones that I just don’t get are the “it’s a hoax” ones. who exactly is in on this hoax? The media? Amazon? Governors that drafted Chris sale in round 2 and want to re do their fantasy drafts?

  14. What I find annoying and sad about these "liberty" demonstrations is that those that I feel have a right to be upset and frustrated are those that have lost their jobs and businesses because of state actions. I get that. But when I see these demonstrations, I see people that are mad because they cant go have fun and have things back to normal. I saw someone holding a sign saying, and I sh*t you not, "I NEED A HAIRCUT".

  17. Personally I think there’s at least a nonzero chance the whole story was fabricated by Puig and his agent to try to drum up interest in signing him. I find it hard to believe multiple teams have offers on the table given the state of the world and uncertainty of the coming season. I suppose it’s possible he had some offers before the **** hit the fan, but I can’t imagine those offers are still on the table.

  19. Absolutely. I know I won't be taking my family to eat at a sit down restaurant anytime soon, and that sucks for the small mom and pop restaurants all over out there, and all the staff they employ. I think the big chains will be fine, but hopefully some of those places can survive. The longer this goes though, the less of a chance they have. They'll have to be creative with seating arrangements, outdoor seating, etc. I think at least giving them that opportunity is important, at least in states that make sense.

  20. yeah. one of the first tests was developed in berlin-charite by professor drosten. highly regarded expert here. he posts a daily podcast now for weeks. with updates and scientific stuff. also advises angela merkel (with others). thats part of the success here. they are all open with information. and they dont mind to say "folks, we dont know. its new, we will see". thats why everybody here has big trust in merkel, goverment etc. a guy like trump who says daily "everything is fine. i m in control of this" is just an idiot and a clown to most germans. everybody knows that nothing really is under

Your selfish if you leave your house” mantra that everyone is screaming everywhere for the “likes,” with zero thought. There ARE some things to debate/discuss, but those discussions aren’t being allowed to be had (not here. On a larger scale). Hope all is well with your girlfriend.

Anyway, one thing it discusses is all the differences between collectivist and individualist cultures. They usually compare Americans to countries in the Far East, often Korea. So quite relevant to all this stuff, with the Eastern countries seemingly doing a far better job with the virus. One of many cool facts is that the nature of your culture depends largely upon how your ancestors sustained themselves. Eastern cultures

  29. I was reading on Portuguese newspaper 'Abola' that the 1st two divisions of German football have been given the green light to resume behind closed doors on May 9th. In other football news, Sporting CP returned to training today, with only a few players at any given time (exactly how Germany started training again).. extending the distance to a full 10 metres between players. They brought their own fluids. Did not use change rooms. Came dressed and left straight to their car after practice. We are slowly seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

Those providers are tending to proceed with caution and many are stopping elective surgeries entirely, but Pittsburgh's largest (by far) hospital system is continuing to do them.

The problem with these studies is that you can drive a metaphorical truck through the holes in the methodology: 1) 200 people is a tiny sample size for a study - to that point, they say that's a third of the 600 residents of Chelsea, MA. 2) Is there any reason why COVID-19 should be found in this town, with contact tracing and all? If there is no documented case of it having reach this little town, how could any of them reliably have developed antibodies from exposure? 3) The test is not FDA-approved, which isn't really the death kneel, but they make no mention of the false posi

  34. Give me a break. Fournette has gotten a lot of **** lately and i'm sure there's some hyperbole in this comment but it's still stupid. Obviously, he hasn't performed as expected because his expectations were absurd. He also has had issues staying healthy which doesn't help his case. In his rookie season Fournette averaged over 100 YPG and hit double digit TDs in 13 games. His second year he was basically hurt the entire season and playing hurt most of it. Last season he AGAIN averaged over 100 YPG and a solid 4.3 YPC playing for one of the worst offenses and teams in the NFL. Mind yo

  37. He’s 100% worth it from a talent perspective especially to a team like Seattle. The problem is more his health than anything. I do think there’s absolutely zero point in keeping him. I’m pretty sure they’re going to tank hard for Lawrence and a good RB is the last thing they need. Campbell is old and he doesn’t fit their timeline at all so it can be a reason he was let go for less. Although a 5th is absurd. They got a kings ransom for Ramsey and apparently want one for Ngakoue so it’s difficult to say where he will fall on the chart. Again, judging by their other young stars I wouldn’t be

  38. Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno, I'm no GM. Was kinda basing it on the Drake trade to Arizona (6th that ended up becoming a 5th). In terms of money, $4m is reasonable at best for Fournette - I'd rather have the Mark Ingram deal ($15m/3 years) who is a much better pass-blocker. In looking at draft compensation, I'd look at who you can get for that draft at that spot. Let's take #100 (late 3rd) - they make $4m for their 4-year contract. Would I rather (example) Clyde Edwards-Helaire for 4 years at $1m/year over Fournette at $4m, then a 3-year extension? Again, probably. Finally, what kind of

  39. I would jump at a 3rd if I was JAX. Given that they traded Calais Campbell - a much better player at a more premium position - for a 5th, I'd expect Jax will get maybe a 5th or 6th for him. But yeah nobody is trading a first for him not named Bill O'Brien.

  44. As I said earlier - HOU is a great spot for him to land and I will be very interested in him depending on where he goes. I don't think anyone here is arguing he's a guy that goes in the top two rounds of 12-team drafts, but I can see people grabbing him in the 3rd for a quality WR2. I would not be getting him in that scenario - I would consider him as a WR2 starting in the 4th round depending on what's left of the upper-tier players at the position. If he stays healthy that could be a very solid pick with him now teamed up with Watson/the clear #1 option (assuming BOB doesn't go BOB w/a WR w/h

  46. "Mayor Garcetti said unless there is a vaccine, there won’t be mass gatherings until next year." I assume the term mass gatherings means no fans but it's possible he considers a baseball game with no fans still a mass gathering. I assume he will be asked to clarify this at some point. Also, everyone is different but I consider the sweeping cancellation of these events 8+ months into the future more of a morale killer than just simply not saying anything (and therefore still having some hope) but that's just me.

Arod's performance in the 2005-2012 playoffs excluding Minnesota playoff games (Minn can not beat the Yanks in a post-season series if their lives depended on it and had weak pitching for the most part) and the 2009 post-season (where for whatever reason he decided to show up) stands for itself as the pinnacle of choke-itis imo. There was a reason people called him the best 3 run homer hitter with a 5 run lead lol. I have no love for Stanton...wish they never made the deal. 50. College is not the same as NFL. That's why more than half the first round picks bust or drastically under perform. As a Huskie fan I can safely say the PAC 12 defenses are utterly pathetic minus 3 teams. I'm not saying he will bust. I'm saying using that data to back up a claim of him outperforming guys that have proven themselves in the NFL is illogical at best. You have misinterpreted most of what is being said. All this negative information about CMC largely came up after you claimed him to be a top 3 back. It wasn't brought up to prove he will bust but rather to show how laughable th
