does this somehow change the fact that Rudolph was the worst TE available in FA?

it’s not like Gettleman signed Jonnu Smith or Hunter Henry.

I think they were interested in Rudolph for his blocking as that seems to be the knock on Engram.

He couldn't have landed into any other situation, bc no other teams would realistically consider this. Again, if it's to sell tickets then sure but I wouldn't bet on him even making the roster.

The Florida Times-Union's Gene Frenette said for Tim Tebow to make the Jaguars' roster, he'll "undoubtedly" take on a role besides tight end.

They're going to move Trevor Lawrence to tight end.

If you guys see any errors please let me know. Also I've been doing the draft order this way since it began in 2012 (WOW!!! Many of you have been here since we started!!!) but was wondering if you think it should change for next year. I've always based draft order on wins/loses then as total points as the tie breaker... Do you guys think more emphasis should be put towards point totals than wins and loses? Sometimes a team who scores 1300 points has a better winning record than a team scoring 1700 just based on lucky match-ups but the 1300 point team is clearly the worse team. Again, this is just me rambling and looking at the standings over the last few years and thought I'd ask.

I am in for this season.

Regarding deceptive records,  There isn't much you can do after looking at records and points and preventing blatent tanking.

I guess you could just look at points, but that can be misleading sometimes too.  A dynasty team that gets the injury bug might have a season where they score a low number of points but their long term assets might still be great.

Basically you'd have to invent a new system that would allocate comp picks to teams that really suck based on an objective criteria.

Well I am talking about at the time of selection. Leaf is the worst second overall pick of all time sure but Trubisky was mind bogglingly dumb at selection time and is dumb now.

Leaf was projected to go #2, Trubisky was projected to go in the teens but as the draft approached more people mocked the Browns trading up into the top 5 for him.  This may have lead the Bears to overpay to get him...

So yeah he was probably a bigger reach than Leaf at the time of their respective drafts.

Do I understand the contract correct that if they trade him before 6/1 they will have a dead cap hit in '21 of 23.25m while if they trade him after 6/1 they will have a '21 dead cap hit of 7.75m and a '22 dead cap hit of 15.5m (so split it over 2 years)?

And a team would have to take him for at least 2 years (first year 23.05m, second year 19.26m) before they have an out after the '22 season?

    source:https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/atlanta-falcons/julio-jones-7721/

So trading Julio would save the 19m against the cap?

If this was true I would have agreed with isuckatdfs that eating the whole dead cap in '21 would be better, right? So you're free in '22 on any remains. Since they didn't draft a new QB, it feels like they are all in with Ryan for a year or two. So I doubt he will be traded anyways. Playing 2TE sets with Hurst/Pitts and Julio/Ridley on the outside looks nice.

    https://overthecap.com/should-the-falcons-trade-julio-jones/

"The Falcons guaranteed $64 million dollars with full guarantees that would virtually run through the 2021 season. The contract made Jones un-cuttable through 2021- it would leave the Falcons with a $40.55 million cap charge- and virtually untradeable given their cap situation- his $23.25 million in dead money would be the same as keeping him on the team."

"That leaves the June 2 as the only real option for the Falcons. By delaying  a trade until that time Atlanta can split that $23.25 million across two seasons. They would be charged $7.75 million on the cap this year, saving the team $15.3 million in cap space, and $15.5 million next year, which is about $3.7 million in savings for 2022."

    ...

"As for a team looking to acquire Jones it is very affordable. It is $15.3 million this year and $11.513 million in each of the next two years. Just $17.3 million is guaranteed so if things went really bad a team could walk away but at an average of $12.8 million a year even a diminished Jones would be reasonable value at that cost."

But yes the Jets have a new coaching staff and a lot of new offensive players which on paper may lead to some fantasy upside.

I know and agree, I was just pointing out why other fantasy owners/fans might be skeptical of  any claims of fantasy relevance of Jets players.

I wonder if any of these posts actually look at the Jets roster before commenting or just go "LOL Jets" based on the logo like with the Browns last offseason or Bills two offseasons ago

A few years back the Jets drafted a QB in the first round in same draft where the Bills, Browns and Ravens took a first round QB.

I dunno, maybe it's the old man in me now ...but that kinda stuff just screams way to much attention whoring.  Like I'm a wrestling fan of the old days so sure it's fun to get all riled up and dive thru a table but still, hes a big dude, what if he just fell wrong and ****** his shoulder up or something ...its like to me just not a mature way to act right after being drafted.

Plus it's just this ******** social media attention ****, like I can't stand it. Falls right in line with juju and these other clowns that think they're so cute posting ****.

I don't know but that just seems unnecessary,  or at least do it on your own time off camera

Was he a smart enough fan to gimmick the table or did he just really go through the table like a 90s ECW midcarder with no future?

Browns and Jets are having a solid draft so far. They both need to get one more OL though

I'm a bit underwhelmed with the Jets taking a small slot WR at 34, but I still can't complain,

This last bit I don't agree with. I've seen him make many completely boneheaded decisions, like to go for a run on 3rd and 23 with 3 receivers semi-open.

    giphy.gif

I mean, nice pirouette ballet boy, but how did he think that was going to end?

Were those WRs really open?  I'd need to see the back end of the defense on that play.  It didn't look like any were getting open past the first down marker...

From what I can see, Fields is up 7-0 in the first quarter, it's 3rd and 23...the defense rushed 3 and dropped everyone else into coverage.  I'd be more than happy with my QB  rushing to get better field position for a punt rather than tossing it into coverage and risking an interception.

Maybe I've just watched too many Jets QBs over the years, but it seems to me Justin Fields makes good choices based on game situations from the games I watched.

Wow a smart pick by the Jets!

Normally I wouldn't be thrilled with taking a guard so early, but apparently he can play LT too, which is nice even though the Jets have a LT.

  15. Lots of people pick at stuff with Fields, but he throws a great deep lob pass along the sidelines where only the WR can get it.  He's also obviously a great runner, and he makes good choices based on down and distance.  Who knows how it turns out, but I think the Bears did well for themselves to move up and take a shot on him.
