  1. Availability is an ability - pretty easy fade at this point even with the sorta-positive news, especially in redrafts. As a keeper he presents a real dilemma.
  2. It's all speculation but I would think there is less variability about what Gallen will offer upon his return than Syndergaard. In other words I have more confidence Gallen is going to resemble his old self and resume production more quickly.
  3. So I'm actually relieved by this. Definitely a preferable injury than to ligament or tendon and I would think a more predictable recovery. My only concern is that once he comes back he'll still have to bat in games. Friggin MLB. 🙄
  4. Apparently hurt it batting? I don't know whether that eases any concerns.
  5. While at the same time the league is squeezing minor league affiliates which is how so many more people get exposed to live baseball, and how the next generation of fans is cultivated and connects with the next generation of major leaguers. It's incredibly shortsighted.
  6. What is the level of confidence that Rob Manfred appreciates the danger to the sport posed by a work stoppage? I have not been overly impressed with his performance as chief steward of the game. He is in a unique position to dictate how this all goes.
  7. I don't think he needs to turn anything around necessarily. He's pitched pretty well and been improving. You're right maybe he's not on the right team, but this year they are going to try him as a "utility reliever." New York Yankees creating the utility pitcher (calltothepen.com)
  8. Outside of Stanton it's hard to think of any other position player whose outlook is SO health dependent. He'll either put up the numbers or he'll be hurt.
  9. I agree with those numbers, definitely doable in that lineup.
  10. Because the Phillies might have caught it from the Marlins. They will probably postpone the whole series unless the testing comes back ASAP
  11. No disrespect to the Marlins fan out there but no one is really going to notice whether or not half the Miami lineup is minor leaguers. But if they spread it to the Phillies and then the Yanks and you start seeing contenders dropping like flies there's going to be major repercussions.
  12. Assuming everyone who has played so far showed up with a clean slate we frankly don't know if playing baseball is conducive to spread or not. But we're about to find out.
  13. The question in my mind is whether they 1) broke MLB protocol or 2) there was no MLB protocol in place to begin with for what happens after a positive test. So either the team screwed up royally, or the MLB protocols are incredibly, dangerously bad. If it's the latter I do believe there may actually be implications for the sport beyond this season. What if the players decide they don't want to keep playing amid this obviously unaddressed and potentially deadly risk?
  14. River Ave Blues put it pretty succinctly - if they can't play because of the virus, so be it. It might be the case for all sports. But if they scotch the season because a bunch of millionaires and billionaires can't reach a financial compromise it's gonna burn baseball to the ground.
  15. Up until now I think the upside was a Sabathia-esque trajectory for the next few years as he figured out how to pitch with a different set of weapons. Now even that might be expecting too much.
  16. French Ligue 1 and 2 playing behind closed doors until April 15. In Germany all gatherings of more than 1,000 people are off. MLB and other American leagues are surely taking notice.
  17. I'd add any games in the northeast where the weather is cooler too. Confirmed cases in DC, Maryland and Pennsylvania (Philly burbs).
  18. Gary Sanchez out of camp today with a fever. Team would not say if he is being tested for COVID-19 but surely he will be.
  19. Not in camp today because he's running a fever. Team would not disclose if he is being tested for COVID-19.
  20. I caught some of an interview a few weeks ago in which he admitted he didn't prepare enough last year and said he was recommitting to prep work and getting back to basics this year. Who knows if he can stave of Father Time for another year but I think he might be undervalued a bit at this point.
  21. Apparently the injury dates to a diving catch in September(!). I can totally see that happening but man there's gotta be an inquest as to why two injuries suffered in the fall (Judge and Sevy) seem to have gone undiagnosed for months.
  22. Not a good diagnosis but at least it's a diagnosis.
  23. Ruocco has been in Yankees PR for years and actually stepped in to do play by play last year when Michael Kay was out following throat surgery. He also does play by play for the Nets. I imagine he'll take over for either John Sterling or Michael Kay, whoever leaves first.
  24. I mean that is definitely not a compelling thing to say, sheesh.
