  1. IMO you're entering the slippery slope of what constitutes an advantage, unfair or otherwise. IF he has a medical deficiency and IF he takes HGH to correct that deficiency I don't see how it's all that different from getting LASIK or even cortisone injections to bring down chronic swelling. Was CC's monstrous knee brace an advantage? He couldn't pitch without it.
  2. So my read of that is if Trout was using HGH it was not sanctioned as a medical exemption, loophole or otherwise.
  3. I'm not a doctor but it seems pretty straightforward - if his thyroid is haywire and he needs HGH to regulate it or whatever then that's what he needs. That's not a loophole, that's the whole point of "medical exemptions."
  4. It's gonna be really interesting to see their home/road splits for sure. They are going to get savaged at every stadium they visit.
  5. The funny thing is I think they are by far the best commentators they've had in years.
  6. I didn't agree with revoking their trophy before but this is true just nuke it from orbit. The whole season was trashed.
  7. Based on the Farquhar clip I think you can assume Gattis was in on it.
  8. Disregarding the warning AND taking it to another club definitely seems like crossing a big fat line. I think the actual length of the suspension is probably academic as he'll be unhireable after this anyway. I am interested to see how the two teams do on the road this year. The boos will rain down for sure but I wonder how players will respond. Beanings etc? I saw Aaron Judge took the time to delete a congratulatory post on social media for the Astros WS win.
  9. You may not draft him unless you rename your team with some sort of wild boar-related pun.
  10. I saw a photo of him sporting the beard. Maybe that's what it takes.
  11. The question is what's the threshold that makes it worth it. Same was true of the Harper deal. If they win one WS over the course of his contract, does that justify it? Two? I don't think anyone has any misconceptions that the last four or five years of this contract aren't going to feature declining returns, possibly drastic ones. Ideally it works out like CC's contract did and Cole ages gracefully. But even if he doesn't I think one World Series ought to be enough to silence critics. Of course TJS or shoulder problems would be disastrous. That's baseball, Suzyn.
  12. Okay - $30 for two beers. Point being if you are spending anything north of $300 you're either doing it wrong or don't care. At any rate, personally I prefer taking my 4 y/o to minor league games (she's already got more foul balls than I ever have). Spending any amount to get her to YS now would be a waste of money.
  13. I agree Yankee games are not a cheap date but come on, including Ticketmaster fees you can get upper deck seats for $30 each right now. So for a family of four that's $120 for tickets, ~$40 for parking if you drive, $20 for two beers, $10 for two sodas, and maybe $40 on food. That comes in under $250 and cheaper than a Broadway matinee and lunch in midtown, and that's not even hunting for discounts or taking advantage of Pinstripe Pass, etc.
  14. Presumably as that gets within reach he will start attempting more too.
  15. Headed to the IL with shoulder inflammation. Definitely playing to type this year.
  16. Sounds like he's gonna close for them when he returns. Interesting decision.
  17. I would hope he has the sense, or the guidance, for that not to happen. He has zero leverage and pulling a stunt like that would make him a toxic asset. He's a rook, with all the crappy organizational toing-and-froing that entails. He's not the first and he won't be the last.
  18. I'm not sure where you get this from. He has a mentor/mentee relationship with Judge and he's becoming a fan favorite. Some in the press smell blood because he wears his heart on his sleeve but beyond that I'm not seeing it. Maybe you move him if you can get Scherzer back but beyond that I think any trade involving him will go down in flames with the fanbase.
  19. He was not helped at all by David Dahl airmailng a throw home. I think at that point he got rattled.
  20. I mean, this is a little bit surprising.
  21. It's good practice not to believe a word that comes out of the mouth of pitchers when it comes to their health.
  22. Just needs to keep stringing some good ones together.
