Rotoworld Blurb Mistake/Argument Thread

I swore long ago not to pay any more attention to the blurbs until they at least learned the hyphenation rules governing phrasal adjectives - if I have to read “surgically-repaired” one more time....

This may be a stretch but I still thought it was funny:

  • Cowboys signed S Damontae Kazee, formerly of the Falcons, to a one-year contract.

The NFL interceptions leader with 10 between the 2018-19 seasons, Kazee tore his Achilles' tendon in October and was allowed to walk in free agency by the Falcons. He will be reuniting with ex-Falcons coach Dan Quinn in Big D, though it's not a guarantee Kazee is ready for Week 1. Still only 28 (in June), Kazee maintains play-making, every-down upside. He needs to get healthy before anything else.

Browns signed DL Jadeveon Clowney, formerly of the Titans, to a one-year contract worth up to $10 million.

Clowney will join his fourth team in four years after a 2020 season in which he didn't record a sack in eight games. He missed half the season with a knee injury -- a rarity for the usual-durable veteran. In Cleveland, Clowney, 28, stands to benefit from the attention opposing offenses will give to blocking Myles Garrett. The Browns in 2020 had the 12th lowest sack rate in the NFL, averaging 2.2 sacks per game (16th).

Wait... what? Did the writer of the roto blurb only start watching football a year or two ago?

That’s a Clowney question, bro.

  • Cardinals selected Purdue WR Rondale Moore with the No. 49 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Moore (5'7/181) set the nation ablaze as an 18-year-old freshmen at Purdue, hauling in 114 catches for 1,258 yards and 12 scores with 37 broken tackles to boot. Injuries limited him to only seven games the past two years, but he still left the Golden Gophers with a career 8.9 catches per game and mild experience as a punt (6.9 average) and kick returner (18.5). While most NFL corners will tower over him, Moore, who recorded the highest SPARQ rating in the country during his recruitment process, will be stronger and more athletic than all — hence how 71% of his collegiate receiving yardage occurred after the catch. His career outlook still boils down to whether or not he's used correctly as 78% of his receptions came within 10 yards of the line scrimmage. He'll likely open his rookie year as the Cardinals' No. 4 receiver behind DeAndre Hopkins, A.J. Green, and Christian Kirk.

This sure smells of new Lions GM Brad Holmes, who was in the Rams' front office while Gurley was with L.A., doing Gurley a favor. The Lions already have D'Andre Swift headed into his second season and signed Jamaal Williams earlier in the offseason. There's no room for Gurley's broken-down body in this backfield.

As opposed to Adrian Peterson's broken-down body last season?

Jamaal Williams is very good in pass protection.

So is Todd Gurley.

The Lions front office is trying to tell fantasy players something with their off-season moves, they just can't hear it because a noisy hype train is swiftly roaring through fantasyland.  There might be an edge in figuring it out...

They signed Williams and drafted Jefferson. I think it's clear that Swift isn't going to be a workhorse. But that doesn't make the blurb wrong. There isn't room for Gurley in that backfield.

There isn't room for Gurley in the NFL.  Blurbs are often wrong, but I am going to stand by this one.

  • New Player Note Fri, Jun 11

Bobby Bradley went 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and two walks Friday against the Mariners.

Advice: He's 6-for-13 with two homers since his callup. The Indians would be something like 57-9 right now if only they had picked Bradley over Jake Bauers at the start of the season.

Why?  Just why?
