not sure who else may be in front of home besides Jose de Leon

I do. Not that I'm great at predicting timing of call ups. But if he continues to pitch well I think he gets the call.

Just saw it posted above^

When do we think the rays bring him up?

This is a tricky one... The Rays don't really need him right now.  Also if there is an injury later in the season they may go with Jaime Schultz first.

Just love this kid, and not just because of the screwball. Good enough to be a mid-season call up, but might have to wait longer knowing the Rays.

Yea, knowing the Rays it probably won't be until September. Same goes for their young hitters.

This. Rays eek out every year of control and dollar they can as a small market franchise, so you're not going to see them make a move unless they've maximized those first.

No talk on his stint so far in AAA. After a midding first start, he's been dominant. Last 2 starts he's been K'ing everyone, he's already looking ready for the big time.

De Leon just pitched on 5/11 for the first time this season at high A. Threw again today at high A and went 5 hitless innings. So while he's just coming back off the minor league DL, he may still be ahead of Honeywell.

Jacob Faria might be ahead of both, though.

Sounds like the Rays need to trade away some veteran SP this summer! De Leon and Honeywell have to be more than just september callups.

He's my favourite pitching prospect in the minors with his assortment of pitches (and of course the famous screwball). We've seen Faria come up and he's not far behind. Hopefully the Rays trade corn or eggs by the deadline and give honey his shot (hey that made a breakfast pun!).

I went ahead and made the add in my 12 team mixed, hoping to get lucky. My reasoning being he's currently sitting at 92 innings, and I would reasonably expect a cap of 150-160 IP (125 in 2015, 115 in 2016). I don't see them wasting another 40-50 innings in the minors when the Rays could use those innings to give them a shot at the playoffs.

If I'm the Rays I'm playing to win, and he clearly makes them better. Wouldn't be surprised to see a DL stint or move to the bullpen from Odorizzi or Snell. Let Honeywell pitch and help you get to the playoffs, and maybe by that point Snell or Odorizzi has figured it back out, at which point Honeywell switches to the bullpen for the playoff run.

Wishful thinking, I know. After all, it is the Rays...
