Eduardo Rodriguez 2017 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Leaving everything up, or in the heart. What I've noticed despite his recent success, is his balls are never close to the strike zone... he misses by 3-6 inches regularly and the hitter can see it coming out of his hand. You see aggressive swings when he does throw strikes, but his stuff is good enough to have put up the good numbers to date. IMHO,  he needs to learn to work the lower half of the zone and give the hitter a different plane of relevance.

I have a feeling being in a hitters ball park in a division that will eventually start to crush it, he'll come a bit back down to earth a bit but he's been pretty damn good.

I tend to agree. xFIP has him down for 4.03 while his current ERA is 3.10. He has been a tad lucky on homers and gives up way too many flyballs (47.5%) and doesn't induce a ton of popups to offset that.

Yes, but not confident and just hoping for a quality start.

+1 on this.  Just hoping for a QS and keeping the WHIP under control.

He has a history of dominating the Orioles, and they are middle of the pack in wRC+ vs lefties. I'm not a big fan of starting pitchers at Camden Yards, so my expectations aren't super high, but I think you have to have him in the lineup.

He's not looking great today. Velocity is down a tick and his delivery seems off, like he's stiff.

NESN broadcasters showed a pitch from the first inning where it looks like tweaked his back. Speculating he may have hurt himself, but he's still out there.

they also mentioned that he had an awkward step during warmups where he stumbled, so that could be it too. Clearly not perfect, but he's coping with it.

He was due for some regression

I don't think this is it. They showed a video of him slipping and landing awkardly on his leg in warmups. He looked a little off first inning, but looks better now. I think that was it and should be good for the rest of the game.

Thx for the info mtblock

I still believe his era and whip were due for regression. Don't get me wrong I would love to see him stay at sub 3 era and sub 1.2 whip.

Love Erod.  I have owned him for three years now on and off and I'm digghng the results so far this year. He's my SP 5 in a 14 teamer. Csb.

Thing is, even if the guy winds up as a 3.25ERA 1.2 pitcher with a 8.5K/9, that's pretty darn solid. Should be in line for a W most nights out, and can 100% be a steal in many drafts.
