Let's dispense with the idea that people are fabricating his struggles. He's put up some nice stats against the Phillies to boost his season line a bit, but to act like he's been fine and there's no reason for people to criticize/question his performance to date is just dishonest. Amazing the mental gymnastics some people will go through to try and paint a subpar performance as a good/great one. Oh no he's definitely struggled. I don't remember any "mental gymnastics" trying to deny that. But there are guys like Machado who you can rightfully complain and/or worry about, and then there's Mookie, who is plugging along and doing just fine. Would I LOVE if he was top 5 consistently all year? I suppose. But I only care about final numbers. I don't care about where he's at in June. He's well within striking distance. And you always bring up his draft spot. What is ok for you for him to finish? Is he a bust if he's not top 5? Top 10? Do you know the track record in fantasy baseball, & how this works? Last year Trout, Goldy, & Kershaw were the only 3 1st rounders to finish top 12 in 5 x 5. Your 1st round pick doesn't need to finish top 12 to be a worthwhile investment. This has been explained over and over.
markygunit 71
Anyone that is even remotely complaining about Mookie Betts is the absolute worst kind of fantasy player/baseball fan. Guys who will b**** about anything no matter how small the sample size. There are still 100 games left for godssakes. All you need to realize is that he's actually been extremely unlucky. His BAPIP for the season is around .260 which is actually around what the worst hitters in baseball hover around. He's usually around ~.320 for his career. Expect a correction in this department. Secondly, he's still on pace for a 25-25 season. Also, RBI and (to a larger degree) Runs are out of his control. Yes, RBI too. It depends on players that get on base in front of him. Even the worst hitters could drive in 90+ RBI if you put him in a stacked lineup. Lastly, there are only 5 hitters in the AL that have more stolen bases than Mookie: Cameron Maybin, Jarrod Dyson, Elvis Andrus, Delino Deshields, and Lorenzo Cain, and none have more HRs. All garbage with the exception of Andrus, who's playing out of his mind by his standards. I didn't bother with NL, but you get the picture...outside of Altuve and Godschmidt, it's more of the same: steals specialists. You're drafting Mookie for his HR-SB ability--the things that he can largely control, and he's been delivering. He's still having a great season, and my bet is he'll still deliver the goods on a Top 5 season... Again, 100 games left still! If you're complaining about Mookie, let me know join your league next year.

soxfan94 199
Mookie needed a triple for the cycle, he decided "screw the cycle" and hit his 2nd homer of the game.

neph27 178
Do the people selling look at the periphrials? It was pretty clear from them that he'd had some BABIP bad luck/lineup holding him back. These things tend to regress back to where he normally sits. I'm sure people got decent hauls at least but Mookie can get HOT in a hurry. Why are you open to trading someone someone so obviously talented? Like, throughout his minor league careeer, professional career, etc. why aren't you just plugging this guy and forgetting every day? Forget the noise, I can't stress this enough.

codyodea 351
With the season so long (roto), as long as a guy is hovering around top 100, I just ride that out regardless. Rankings move quickly every week. Not to get into a strategy argument but we can all agree that even before tonight. Mookie was hovering where he needed to be. I respect @absknicks for not being drunk on the Mook-Aid and pointing out things we want to gloss over or dismiss as the up and down nature of FBB, but I think our boy will still finish with a great line worthy of the first round pick he was. Also, my five month old girl must disagree with my assessments because she is repetitively kicking and hitting my phone out of my hand. All spelling and or grammatical errors I ask you please forgive as I was swyping under duress, baby duress..

Let's just let things play out without the "told you so's" after every good/bad performance. Also worth pointing out its the Phillies. Let's see him put together a great month then we can all rejoice. he is pretty close to last year's pace. Like I said, he got, on fire, after June 13th last year
