Just looking at highlights, Burkhead looks just ok running the ball, but in terms of route running and receiving he looks incredible.   Those that have him in PPR will be happy tomorrow night no doubt.

As a Gillislee owner, I hope Burkhead catches the ball through the air more than he runs it.

As a fantasy football player, I hope Burkhead owner's aren't let down if the above is true, since he will fight for air yards vs both White and Lewis.

As a realist, I hope we're all prepared to be let down every other week when Belichick decides to feature a different running back every week. At least we had a sure thing last year with Blount running the ball and White out of the backfield. Such a mess this year.

The fact that they signed Gillislee after signing Rex should be telling. Also committing to him for 2 years vs. Rex' 1.

Mike running 12-85-1 against them last year when McCoy was out didn't hurt his case either.

They did not commit to Gillislee for 2 years, it is essentially a 1 year $3.9M contract with a $2.4M team option for the following year.  No guaranteed money in year 2.

As a Burkhead owner, I hope he has more snaps and yards than the other backs while snaking some of the TD carries in situations they don't want to sub also.

As a fantasy football player, I hope Gillislee owners aren't let down if he ends up as the short yardage back with Burkhead scoring more by outsnapping and outgaining him.

As a realist, I think Belichick wants to utilize a more well rounded/versatile back which is why he let Blount walk after a 1300 yd, 20TD season in which they won the Superbowl.  Also at least one back is going to miss time again this year and someone will likely pull away as a fantasy producer, but which one that will be is just an educated guess

You most certainly can do on Yahoo.  Pick him up, leave him on your bench (if you obviously start him then he remains on your team until waivers the following week), if he turns out to be a dud, then drop him and pick your kicker back up.

Flyers_28, it appears then that you play in a no waivers league, where anything goes.  Those leagues, IMO, are terrible.  It means whoever is glued to the tv gets first shot at the hot pickups of the week.  Most leagues lock pickups once the game begins.

Check your league settings to figure out what is allowed.

So the info I've gathered is that Rex is the most "complete" back.  So does that mean he gets the most opportunity?  If I chose to roster any NE back, I think I would settle on Rex.  James White may be the "passing specialist" but what does that really mean?  4-6 dumpoffs with maybe a 20% chance for a TD?  And Dion certainly will figure into catches as well.

Most leagues don't allow this.  Yahoo defaults to "game time" for weekly waiver settings which means anyone playing in the Thursday Night games will be put on waivers at the beginning of that game.

You could still add Rex before the game and drop your kicker, leave Rex on your bench and add a different kicker (or possibly your same kicker depending on if you can grab him before someone else does).  If Rex stinks you can drop him on Friday and pick up a kicker for the weekend.

fun report, but almost have to wonder maybe he's an "ex" patriots exec for  a reason, lol

Not sure why they don't just say his name: it was Mike Lombardi. One of the brightest most experienced player development GMs, from working for Al Davis to Bill Walsh to Belichick. I forget how many super bowl rings he has. I try to listen to him wherever he goes. His insight on football is incredible and hearing him on that podcast is certainly why i clicked on this link this evening :)

"Random guys fantasy prediction says..."

I'll treat that tweet like a random post on Rotoworld forums.

Sure, a former GM who was working with the Pats until June last year is equivalent to some random poster on rotoworld.

Look out pregame tonight.  Some have speculated whether Bolden will be active for the game and if so, who will sit?

http://patriotswire.usatoday.com/2017/08/21/watch-every-one-of-rex-burkheads-touches-from-patriots-vs-texans/

“Rex has missed very little time,” Belichick said. “He’s basically been out there every day and we’ve worked with him in all areas of the game that we think he can contribute in, which is all three downs offensively and the four phases of special teams that he’s been involved with, from Day 1.”

according to coach Bill Belichick, who said on Saturday: “I think [Gillislee] still has quite a ways to go. He has missed some practices this [summer] and missed some practices [in the] spring. He works hard to stay on top of things and to stay caught up, and we've worked hard to catch him up, but he still has some ground to make up."

Writing is on the wall right there folks.  Burkhead > Gillislee for an early season role.

Imagine if this guy somehow worked his way into a 3 down back...On the Patriots.

I can't start him week 1 in either of my leagues though. It would be over Abdullah or Cook. They have a much more defined role as of now and until I see Burkhead getting double digit touches consistently there's no way he makes it out on the field.
