Ben Roethlisberger 2017 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Well that didn't take long...

Ben Roethlisberger confirmed he will return for the 2018 season.

Roethlisberger seriously considered retirement last offseason and even spoke of it during the 2017 campaign, but he played far too well down the stretch to call it quits with plenty left in the tank. Including playoffs, Big Ben posted a 23:6 TD-to-INT ratio across his final eight games, and the Steelers have enough in-place talent to make another run at the Super Bowl. The watch is now on for the job security of OC Todd Haley, who called an atrocious game in Pittsburgh's playoff loss to Jacksonville and is known to have a "strained" relationship with Ben.

Guarantees Tomlin keeps his job and Bell finally signs a contract if he stops being stupid and thinks he going to get paid like a rb+wr

I think Ben must have assurances that Haley is out as OC. They've never gotten along and some of Haley's play calling just plain awful.

Lol. Steelers scored 42 and Haley seems to be getting murdered by everyone.

Somebody has to take the fall and when your HOF QB who has retirement in the back of his mind already dislikes his OC that's the easiest call

The problem with the Steelers is on the defensive side of the ball. Haley has been fine. I think a lot of the blame should fall on Tomlin. Maybe the front office. But since Tomlin has been HC that defense has eroded and the team has no longer been known for defense. They have had a hard time drafting or signing FA pass rushers. The secondary has fallen apart since Polamalu left. Overall they haven't drafted well on defense.

And there is a good chance Shazier's career is done.

Reportedly Haley and Ben don't communicate on the sidelines at all. This can't happen. You need your quarterback and your offense of coordinator communicating during the game especially during critical situations. Plus Haley scheme is fine but he's just not a good play caller by many accounts. That one gaffe he had at the end of the Steelers versus Patriots game was inexcusable. The coordinator must have a play ready in a critical situation like that even if there's a controversial call that erases a touchdown.

Personally think the the entire coaching staff needs to go but the Steelers are so close to winning it all that can't be done. To not have your team ready to play in the divisional game is Just mind-boggling.

Blame should fall on Tomlin but the players like him, he has a  SB ring and he gives off that image of the tough guy steelers bravado for the cameras.  Easier to throw one of the coordinators under teh bus for failure.

Big Ben. Bell. Brown. Bryant. JJSS. Glad the man can do his job with these scrubs. Haley's a genius.

Can we stop talking about Bryant like he's an above average receiver? Dude is nothing special. JJSS is 10x the receiver Bryant is. He is JAG.

Yeah... that isn't accurate. They both aren't AB. But they are both above average receivers. They also have the benefit of facing single coverage constantly thanks to AB and Bell and have Big Ben throwing them the ball behind a good OL. They both might not do better if they went to a worse team.

Haley fired. I wonder what that means for Ben and the Steelers offense next season. The offense had no issue putting points up. I hope it doesn't affect that part of their team like it appears to have done with the Falcons this season.

At the very least he's a field stretcher and another red zone threat. He's also good on jet sweeps and screens. Maybe he disappointed some owners in 2017 because he was obviously overhyped in fantasy, but in real football Bryant is a big part of the Steelers success.

I would prefer to give the credit to big ben being a stud QB when his head is in the game. People really have a love hate relationship with the guy but his talent as a passer is undenianle. he makes great pre snap reads on the defense
