Josh Doctson 2017 Season Outlook

Recommended Posts

Some analyst earlier in the week was saying that Dallas was very weak against slot receivers thus Crowder could have a breakout game.

I think we saw that to be true today and perhaps this game was not a good judge of things to come for Doctson.

Nonetheless it was not a what we wanted to see but I'm glad he at least caught a 1 yard TD.

I did actually. You mean the 30 yard pass that wasn’t catchable?

You said "it’s all about Thompson and Reed or Davis"...  I disagree.  They started to treat him more like the WR1 and Cousins was looking to him first on a lot of plays.  The only reason Thompson had such a predictable big game was because of the weather, which is why he was a great DFS play at his price.

Grant has 7 targets Crowder 13 and Doctson 3, they were trying to force to force the ball to him though...oh

Yea his targets were low, but during the second half he was getting the first look on a lot of plays.  Most of the passing went through short quick routes to the RB and slot today.

I don’t see how 3 Targets translate to being treated as a WR #1? Thompson is leading the team in receiving, that’s gone on the entire season. Hell Pryor had 2 less targets then Doctson.

This was my thoughts 3 weeks ago when he was being started at X receiver spot. He’s become defacto #1 receiver so will face top CB play rest of the way, he isn’t ready. Next season should set up better.

Idk he just doesn't seem to run good routes or get separation, he seems more of just a good athlete. Don't think he will amount to much this season

When is the finger going to be pointed at Kirk Cousins instead of the Redskins receivers? All this guy likes to do is check-down. In the picture below, Doctson is wide open in the middle of the field for what could have been a decent gain. Instead, Kirk chooses to check-down to Thompson at the bottom of the screen. Even at the end of the game when the Redskins needed to score, Kirk was still checking down in the middle of the field.

Sherman got toasted today.  Doctson is a jump ball specialist, meaning he can make plays in tight coverage.  What I don't like though are the 2-3 targets a game.  That's not a #1 WR.

Yeah that was awful, especially the check down at the end of the game.

But whether it’s Cousins’ fault or Doctson’s (it’s both), the main point is that Doctson isn’t worth owning in fantasy.

Cousins looks for the checkdowns and tes because the protection can't hold up long enough for the outside wrs to run their routes but he should take a deep shot just to keep defenses honest. Doctson is a hold bc he does possess skills to win blowup, they just need some continuity along the line.

Give Sherman some respect....he got beat by a top 3 WR in this league

Did you watch the game?  They were borderline trying to force the ball into his hands at one point, he even drew a ~30 yard pass interference when they took a shot at the endzone.  He was throwing verticle balls to him, and he ran a bunch of different routes.  Boxscore looks bad, weather was bad, overall I saw nothing from this game that led me to believe the stash isn't worth it.

WTF are you talking about? Force him the ball? Get a grip on reality. Doctson had just 3 targets and ONE catch. Nobody was trying to force the ball to him, and it wasnt even borderline. He was an afterthought for Cousins.

I've said this all along.  Cousins is padding his stats for that new contract.

https://247sports.com/nfl/washington-redskins/Bolt/Kirk-Cousins-contract-saga-Where-it-stands-heading-into-summer-52119935

Carr and Stafford got theirs after that article was written and those were massive contracts.  Cousins is afraid to take shots and would rather check down.  Problem now is as we have seen back to back weeks Washington can't compete against division rivals Dallas and Philly by relying on low percentage plays.  These plays involve checking down to Thompson, checking down to the TEs and throwing slants.  These are all low percentage plays.  Thompson has been phenomenal this year and that dude will make the Pro Bowl.  If anyone here plays Fantasy Baseball think about the pitcher algorithm BABIP.  Same concept here.  Washington has been lucky with these low percentage plays and those will regress to the norm.

They either start taking shots downfield like last year or just continue to sink.

Garrapolo to SF.  That rules out Cousins landing that massive contract there.  Means he has more of a chance to stay in Wash.  Feel sorry for those fans.  Check down city for the next 5 years.

I see Washington is trying to trade for a WR, and Indy is trying to move Moncrief.  If that happens, it torpedoes Doctson's value.  He'd be a drop in my book.

Probably is anyway if they're trying to make a deal they don't like what they already have.
