Kyle Kuzma 2017-2018 Season Outlook

Recommended Posts

Ehhh... Kuzma's weak all-around game was masked while Nance was out, Pts-Reb aren't enough to get it done if you're only mixing in a few treys on efficient play. His lack of stocks are going to show all the warts in his fantasy game at 25 minutes per, methinks. Randle sticking to his mid 20s run isn't good either. Looks like a possible four headed monster up front (Kuz-Nance-Randle-Brolo), in which case maybe one of them is the winner, but no more than that. Throwing darts, anyone?

Nance at this stage brings the defence that the Lakers lack and Kuzma brings the 3 pt spacing that the Lakers also need.

Actually Ingram still hit .290 percent of 3's, Ball is a horrible shooter, BroLo is also at .309 3's right now. Only reliable shooters are KCP and Kuzma.

lol, no. he is the best laker by far and still learning. when he figures how to contribute on defense, he'll become a monster.

"when he figures out how to contribute on defense." Are you expecting him to boost his stocks? That's not happening. He'll continue to be a solid source of points and a decent source of rebounds assuming he starts trending toward his season average soon, but he's not providing much value beyond that this season. The three point shooting is also solid, but that's not a commodity anymore as every player and their mama provide three point value this season. Turnovers are also trending in the wrong direction and his relegation to a bench role with reduced minutes is concerning.

not expecting, i am sure of it.. he once said that he knows how to shoot and it's now time to learn how to defense. he was right. i know the kid is working really hard to improve his defense. if someone has high IQ like he does and working on something, you can bet on the result. result=stocks here. and there is no chance for him to get reduced minutes because he is basically the most important player for the future of Lakers. benched or not,  his minutes is not up to Luke. He'll get his 30+ easily if healthy.

Players don't just "learn" how to get stocks. It's important to note that a player can be a good defender while not accumulating stocks. He plays solid defense at times and he will likely continue to improve in that regard, but he's simply not a shot-blocker. Lots of guys never become shot-blockers i.e. Blake Griffin as it's not a part of their game. I anticipate that Kuzma will remain in that category of players as well. And if he ever was to improve in these categories, I definitely don't anticipate that happening this season.

Note: He can still be a must-own despite lacking in defensive stats. But he needs to regain consistency in his rebounding, continue his elite 3 point shooting over the last few games (not his season average) while keeping %'s high and TO's down.

he is not gonna learn how to get stocks, you are picking my words here. he basically doesn't defense at all because he doesn't know how to. When he learn how, which is what he intend to do, he will get stocks. unlike your thoughts, D and stocks are %95 connected.  "It's important to note that a player can be a good defender while not accumulating stocks" is true for just %5. he has the wish, blake has not. That's the difference. We'll see, he'll become a stock specialist in no time..

Lol do you remember how raw Blake was when he first entered the league. It's remarkable how skilled he is now and the work he put in to transform his all-around game. If he made all of those strides, I'm sure he also cared to improve his positive impact on the defensive end. But he's simply not a shot-blocker and produced below average BPG at his position. I love Kuzma, but your confidence in him developing into a "stocks specialist" sounds like a whole lot of wishful thinking.

I don't know if y'all are keen readers out there, but a couple weeks ago the LA Times sports section did a massive piece on Kuzma's backstory and journey to the NBA (pretty much front page and then 2 more pages inside the sports section....I've never seen a story take up so much space) .  It is an incredible read and I am sure once you read it, you'll understand what kind of special this kid is....... I don't think any amount of belief in this kid is silly.
