Oh boy...

ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio reports there's a "growing sense in league circles" Jon Gruden will return as the next coach of the Bucs.

This falls in line with previous reports on the Bucs interest in Gruden. Tampa is expected to fire Dirk Koetter next week and Gruden is their top candidate replace him. Despite a nine-year layoff, Gruden has been putting together a staff behind the scenes and is serious about making a return. With Gruden making a $6M-plus salary at ESPN, the Bucs are going to need to make him one of the highest paid coaches in the league.

Gruden is the new Cowher. Actually takes a page out of the Favre playbook as well. Milk it dude - no one is sick to death of hearing your name in coaching rumors every freaking year - no one at all.

Bucs are the new Bengals, Browns or a clever copy of their actual selves prior to Gruden - enthusiastically doubling down on failure, misunderstanding of the game of football and severe dysfunction.

This is idiocy.

Latest reports have Hugh and Bill O'Brien staying, Arians retiring and Pagano and Dom Capers fired.  Mularkey on the very very hot seat.

Black Monday will be interesting...

Bad news for DJ if this materializes considering Arians is one of the last believers in employing a 3-down, workhorse RB.

Additional news:

- Fox not likely to return to CHI after this season (obvious)

- OAK prepared to go after Gruden with an offer so strong that it could include a partial ownership stake in the team

- Jim Schwartz in the running for NYG's HC job

Maybe Demarco Murray can follow Mularkey wherever he ends up.  That way, Mularkey can keep starting and playing the washed up vet at the expense of some other younger, cheaper, and more talented running back.

There should be more churn imo.

Coaches should get one to two years tops to prove their chops.

If they can't deliver in that time frame get rid of them and try someone else.

Always baffles me when franchises keep coaches around for 3-4 years and have nothing to show for it except for really good draft picks.

How to spot a bitter Derrick Henry owner...

I had Henry for a while, but dropped him after realizing Mularkey was going to start Murray on crutches over him. Even when Henry was vastly outperforming him...

Mularkey deserves to be fired, he’s lost the locker room.  The players celebrated when they placed hurry up, and the QB got to call the plays.

I will never understand how Gruden gets the hype he does.  Someone he gets all kinds of positive attributes attached to his name, QB Quru for example, and no nothing negative seems to stick.  You would think this guy was in BB class of football minds and had that type of success in the NFL.  Reminds me of Harbaugh at Michigan.  Guy gets all this crazy hype and then bails before things go south for a new job.
