Yangervis Solarte 2018 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Good News - Dealt from a weaker lineup and tougher hitters park and division to great park and AL East hitter friendly division.   So if he was getting near full time at bats, looking at maybe a guy who can go low 20's HR and 75+ RBI with positional versatility.

Bad News - At least on paper if everyone is healthy, does he have a FT Job?  Seems like right now he is sort of 10th bat   He hasnt always been the most healthy either, so you could see some bad luck where guys get hurt and PT is there to be had, but maybe he is hurt also?

Realistic Outlook - 10th bat on this team should get near full time at bats over the course of the season, Travis and Tulo both spend time on DL consistently from season to season, you could see a Donaldson trade at some point which could open up the full time 3B job for remainder of the season AND the OF is not exactly stone cold locks across the board to be everyday contributors.

This was a good, no risk trade for the Blue Jays.  Makes a lot of sense as the Jays can not get rid of that Tulo contract and have no choice but to pray for his health and Devo is just too good to give up on.  But if both get injured (probbaly will) they have Diaz and Solarte.

Starting to become interesting...2 more walks today.  Bats cleanup in a not-too-horrible Blue Jays lineup.  Looks like JD is reasonably healthy and Smoak is for real.  They will get enough from a Pierce/Grandy leadoff platoon.  TT is gone ofr a while, Travis needs plenty of days off.  Solarte is playing himself into an everyday role.  Multi positon eligibility doesn't hurt either.

Wouldn't be the first time the Jays picked someone off the scrap heap and he became a star.

Nothing more than a deep league guy. 20 HR would be a career year for him.

he also hasnt played a full season the last 2 years

18 hrs in 128 gp last year

15 hrs in 109 gp 2 years ago

both years in sd in NL West

seems like a useful guy with 2b/3b/ss on yahoo especially with all the ppd

He is such a pleasant surprise.   Undrafted, picked up, dropped, picked up again.   He is making me want to hold, even when Donaldson comes back.  What are your thoughts on his PT ROS?    OR is this a "bench coach" question?   It's player specific.   Should be here IMO.   Thoughts anyway?

Hitting 4th in a lineup that's scoring 5.5 runs per game. BB% is great. BABIP right around his career avg. Even if you don't think it'll last, you've gotta ride him until the wheels fall off IMO. His multi position eligibility is a huge asset too.

I think he plays 3/4 days when Donaldson returns. Tulo is a bigger problem but the Jays are so injury prone you have to figure he gets his at bats one injury or another

More for the feel good story bro thread.  For those who did not know, Solarte does a nightly dance.  He lost his wife last year due to illness, and has 3 young kids.  The dance is for his kids.
