En Votto Veritas 500
So with the news that Luiz Gohara will not be starting he is now a SP eligible RP. Remains to be seen how he fares in relief but I for one am excited.
#1Stunna 61
Much love to this thread for tipping me off to Will Smith and Richard Rodriguez, two great pickups today.
knuckleheads 469
Garrett's been fantastic lately. Increased K rate and stingier with the walks (30/7 in 25.2 innings) thus far. Great for holds for those using SP for that purpose... As well Will Smith with the hold today...
bazeball 37
Jarlin the Marlin Garcia moved to the bullpen. I’ve never seen him pitch so I’m not sure how he’ll do.

Hicks (STL) Already added Garrett and Gsellman in my 10 team. 2 reliable SP eligible relievers who help keep my ERA and WHIP ratios down, with a trickle of K's and an occasional W

A. Garrett (CIN) R. Gsellman (NYM) Lugo (NYM) B. Norris (STL) J. Hicks (STL) I would have Peacock in there for certain and he may be the safest choice to be good all year. Will Smith has SP eligibility in Yahoo and should rack up a lot of holds. McHugh has been mentioned in this thread and he has also been super in Houston although no holds yet. Both he and Peacock need some more innings though. I think Hicks is going to have resolve his low k and high bb issues otherwise I see him having issues...

A. Garrett (CIN) R. Gsellman (NYM) Lugo (NYM) B. Norris (STL) J. Hicks (STL) Hicks shouldn’t be anywhere near a list like this, especially not with actually good SP/RPs like Peacock and McHugh. Don’t get me wrong. He could end up on a list like this someday, but right now he’s just not good. I think people have really been blinded by the velocity hype. He absolutely needs to have command of his pitches before he can be on a list like this.
bliner13 10
I had Hicks for most of the year. And only needed to drop him bc if so many DL guys. He doesn't dazzle with K's as you'd expect but I am in a non holds league and am it for the ratios and late wins. And to get to my min innings pitched per/week. Hicks isn't a world beater but is mentionable in the conversion.
bliner13 10
Peacock was an oversight. He's in there for sure as is Will Smith and McHugh Edited May 19, 2018 by bliner13
En Votto Veritas 500
I'd rank our SP qualified RPs: B Norris (STL) is a closer and shouldn't really be available in any league. So: Tier 1 B Peacock (HOU) A Garrett (CIN) W Smith (SF) S Lugo (NYM) Tier 2 J Hicks (STL) (can he get walks under control to jump to tier 1?) R Gsellman (NYM) (lets a lot of guys on base) B Farmer (DET) (sick stuff but blows up regularly) M Magill (MIN) (who? can he continue?) C McHugh (HOU) (will he play enough?) Tier 3 C Bergman (SEA) S Wright (BOS) B Keller (KC) M Andriese (TB) (technically a starter but only goes 3 or so IP last I checked)

I think Gsellman deserves to be in Tier 1 because of the number of innings he pitches, while still having a low ERA (2.93), relatively speaking. Peacock doesn't pitch enough. The bullpen in Houston is packed. Gsellman and Lugo have clear roles in the Mets bullpen.

I'm not sure if I'd put him in tier two if he stopped walking people. He's way too wild to be ranked that high. I'm going to take awhile to believe in Garrett. History of wildness and a 51% first strike rate right now? I'm okay being wrong on this one but I'm not buying in. McHugh pitches as much as Peacock. Bump one up or the other down.

I could see an argument about speculative adds, about future potential or whatever for sure! But there’s just no way that I buy he’s a Top 5 guy with his current command. I think even Top 10 could be questionable. In his small sample of 20.2 innings, he’s put up a 2.18 ERA on a 4.84 FIP and a 6.09 xFIP. There’s an interesting argument that you could make about his outperforming his peripherals since he’s a weirdo that pitches a 100 MPH sinker. But he’s not going to continue beating his peripherals with his command how is. I don’t see how he can maintain an 80% LOB rate with a 3.48 K/9 and a 6.10 BB/9. I watch him regularly, and he just doesn’t inspire confidence. Lots of potential? Sure. Fun to see a 100 MPH sinker? Absolutely. Someone I’d roster over other SP eligible relievers? Probably not, unless we’re in a super deep league.
