The news is he out of the lineup is all I'm saying. If we are going to investigate to try and find a problem with him where there isn't one then I would simply point to the fact that he's played everyday straight until today. He's 32 and had major injury problems last season. Seems like a day of maintenance and rest.

Well guess there was something. Never know ?

Impossible to know. Unfortunate as his hitting seemed fine.

Exactly... not sure why they couldn't just DH him for a little while, Kendrys Molasses is on the DL anyway. Probably means there's more to the injury than they initially thought.

Here's your Rotoblurb on the DL stuff:

Quote

Blue Jays placed 3B Josh Donaldson on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 11, with right shoulder inflammation.

Advice: Donaldson has battled a balky throwing shoulder since spring training. He recently underwent additional tests, which showed no new injury and no structural damage. However, the Jays say that the third baseman's "throwing ability has not improved to his desired level," so they'll shut him down for a while. It's unclear how long he'll be out. Yangervis Solarte will handle third base while Donaldson is out.

From "fantasy injury doctor" on twitter. Now make of this trash what you will, but we're all desperate here:

Shoulder- was placed on the DL today. Teoscar Hernandez was called up. Donaldson has been having shoulder pain and a “tired” shoulder, no structural issues. Stint may range from 10-22 days. If no improvement exploratory surgery could be an option. @BlueJays

EXPLORATORY SURGERY??!

Well, it somewhat makes sense.

There's no structural damage, so something must be causing this 32YO professional baseball player's arm to "not work".

If rest doesn't solve the problem I'm not sure what other option there is. Of course, the most practical solution would be to simply DH him. That may be too simplistic however, because if he does have some sort of medical problem with his shoulder it's probably inevitable he wouldn't be able to hack that either.

Exploratory surgery may not be that big a deal in terms of time. Just need to wait and see what the general mood of the Jays is here.

He's their best hitter - they want him in there ASAP I'm quite sure.

I'm pretty upbeat about the news.  He was at 46.9 % hard contact before the DL stint.   Hitting wasn't his problem.  Taking the time to get him right is fine by me.  Todd Frazier has been a perfectly adequate fill-in for my squad, personally.  I predict Donaldson comes back ready to beast.

TOR thinks they play in the NL, so Donaldson is worthless.

As upbeat as you feel, TOR for whatever reason think playing Solarte, Morales, Pearce or whoever at DH is crucial enough to keep JD out of the lineup, so he just needs to "make it right" before he's re-activated.

Sorry but that's what I'm seeing here, even though it defies all common sense as I'd define the term common sense. Maybe they're tanking., Seems early, but this would make your theory make some sense to me.

With all due respect, I can't imagine them screwing a guy who's given so much to their franchise, while simultaneously harming his potential trade value, if it came to that.  These situations can be pretty complicated.  I wouldn't be surprised if he's (and maybe his agent) the one insisting on a little rest, so he can maximize his value this winter, by coming back healthy and looking more like a guy capable of playing 3B.  Also: They've been competitive in the early going.

That or maybe they don't want to cause long term damage to his shoulder?

Damage may already be done and they know it.

They have DL'd a guy than can still hit - when they play in a league that has an extra special little line-up carve-out called the DH for guys who can hit but do nothing else.

Jays are not DH'ing him.

As soon as I see an explanation that makes sense I'll stop bringing it up.

I assume there's damage and they feel hitting will make it worse.
