Jamaal Williams 2018 Outlook

That's not even what it was, Jamaal played against teams when their linemen were hurt and/or the opposing defense was good, and Jones was the opposite. Jamaal was destroying the Bears defense before he got hurt. He's not very good, but neither is Jones.

An interesting theory---in theory---would love to see some evidence to back it up. Do you have any? Numbers/stats or names would help us to organize our draft boards. Seriously.

Just eyeballing it, it looks to me Williams faced better defenses.

Jones weeks 4-7

CHI, DAL, MIN, NOR

Williams starting week 10

CHI, BAL, PIT, TAM, CLE, CAR, MIN, DET

The overlap is CHI and MIN

Jones

CHI - 13 carries, 49 yards, 3.77 YPC, 1 TD   1 target, 1 reception, 9 yards, 0 TD

MIN - 13 carries, 41 yards, 3.15 YPC, 0 TD  1 target, 1 reception, 1 yards, 0 TD

Williams

CHI - 20 carries, 67 yards, 3.35 YPC, 0 TD   1 target, 1 reception, 7 yards, 0 TD

MIN - 15 carries, 58 yards, 3.87 YPC, 0 TD  3 target, 0 reception, 0 yards, 0 TD

On the surface comparable players, but I'd say Williams had tougher matchups and no Rodgers (other than the Carolina game).  Considering Jones is suspended the first two games, seems like that would give Williams a significant leg up.

Check the game logs for yourself if you want details, I already provided you with the evidence.

@Sternesthank you. Additionally as I alluded to, Bulaga was more or less injured (or injured) in every game Williams started and healthy when he was down and supplanted by Jones.

Agreed for the most part, though there are key nuances to add further depth / understanding: e.g. the Baltimore run D is nothing without Brandon Williams---he is elite in this role---and Jamaal Williams was lucky enough to face the Ravens with Brandon W. out (Jamaal was my cheap RB in Daily Fantasy that week but fell short of the 100-yard mark); Jamaal Williams faced Chicago with Danny Trevathan injured/out (whereas AJones faced Trevathan head-on). For my two cents, overall defensive effectiveness is just as sensitive to losing run-prevent-specialists as it is to losing CBs and safeties for determining pass prevention efficiency.

And agreed regarding the "leg up" for Jamaal Williams -- I view it has his job to lose, although maybe his job to "earn" would be more accurate; he has two full weeks in the spotlight to prove why he should be the lead back in what will most likely be an RBBC... though he's sharing the spotlight with TyMo, who may surprise us (especially in PPR).

Thanks for the legwork that miasma16 was incapable of providing.

I made an accurate point. I don't need to do any extra legwork. Who the f--- are you?

Looks like both Williams and Jones will be available late.  No one (apparently) has a confident read on this backfield...

I think Jones has more upside, and I don’t think Williams will win the starting job in 2 weeks.  I think it’s more likely he leaves the door open after playing poorly against the Bears and Vikings Ds.

If Green Bay rotates to Jones in week 3, he be going up against the Redskins...

If anyone takes Williams and starts him (in the first 2 weeks) it will probably because they’re waiting (streaming) until Ingram or Sony returns.

The most likely outcome remains an RBBC, so there’s no reason to get excited and curse someone that disagrees.

Seems likely that it is a mistake, but RW premium content does not even list him among the top 69 RBs from a dynasty perspective...

I think he's got a great chance to perform and earn the trust of MM/Rodgers early and not relinquish it...I fully believe Jones is the better back, but that means little at this point given the situation. Makes Williams a higher risk investment, but a nice upside one depending when you can pounce.

All Jamaal needs to do is be able to pass block well and hammer for three or four yards. That's all the Packers need from a RB. If he can do that he will be the starter all year and he will get enough goal line opportunities to be fantasy relevant. I got him in my league for pennies on the dollar compared to what he may be worth by October 1st.

BAL and PIT were horrendous when GB faced them.

I love his running style.

He has power with enough wiggle to make defenders miss and not absorb to much contact. He has a way of milking every yard he can out of a carry without risking his health. He doesn't have a ton of speed to break away from anybody but he for sure isn't a plodder, kind of like Leveon (i'm not saying he is Leveon, calm down.). I also love his ball security, he has a very unique way of transitioning the ball between hands in the open field that ensures he doesn't bobble it.

I think we are looking at the steal of the draft ladies & gentlemen.

Perhaps, but don't count on those goal line opportunities.  In the last 10 years, the entire Aaron Rodgers era, only 3 times did GB have a RB with more than 4 TDs.  As a team, they are consistently near or below league average in rushing TDs, quite unusual for a high powered offense.  They pass at the GL more than any other team.

Two receiving tds in 9 games of full-time action with Brett freaking Hundley at the helm.

sign me up. He proved to handle a full workload. Coach spoke about him today. Giddy up.

And now they have Graham to throw to in the red zone too, who Rodgers has raved about.

I really just don't see it for Williams, or any GB RB this year.  Worth a speculative draft pick if he's cheap, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

He is the Green Bay RB to draft. He has a chance to take hold of the job out the gate. If he falters, in a ten team league at least, you can always speculate on Jones by picking him from waivers.

Both Montgomery and Jones went before him in my 10 team standard draft last night
