claptondecheeks 1,017
He's dunking and doing more than just straight-line running. Likely just working on strengthening the leg muscles to normal levels. They'll let him play when the tanking is done and a top-5 pick is secured. THJ got injured and might sit, so that'll happen even quicker now.
OKCFan2005 40
Why is this dude getting added like crazy from the wire?? Am I missing something? Thought he wasn't playing this year.
adifferentlogik 617
I thought about it, but guys are usually terrible the season when returning from injuries lasting this long. I’ll pass.

I don't think they will stop until they reach Zion

OxyBubbleMan 315
There is a sweet spot to tanking this year. The Knicks just have to be one of the 3 worst teams for them to get the best odds. They're certainly a lock to be in that spot as both them & the Cavs look like G-league teams without their marquee players. The Bulls got back key players in Dunn & Lauri while the Suns look like they are getting better defensively. A top pick in Zion or RJ, a healthy KP, & a star willing & able to handle the spotlight & scrutiny in NY I think is enough to attract a supporting cast. I believe that Kristaps will play this season, however he will be limited just like when PG returned from his injury. It is in the Knicks best interest as well to see how he does in game & get his confidence back before offering him any kind of extension. Keep in mind though that the Knicks have one of the worst playoffs scheds in H2H (3-4-2). Any b2bs will automatically be a game off for him. He'll just be a blocks specialist for anyone that is going to stash & add him.
Kriggly 282
I just don't see a reason to pull the trigger. Your best bet is that he plays most games at the end of the season at a reduced capacity due to recovery and rust. Might as well just stream people.
claptondecheeks 1,017
I'm in a league with 14 teams, 15 man rosters -+ 2 IL. Limited Porzingis is way better than the trash that's on the wire. Today I had to play Zizic bc he was the best C available.
Eltoro 721
Yeah if he had started practicing in December with the team I would have been confident. Now, not at all. Iirc Lavine and Parker practiced for a month before appearing in games. If KP is cleared to practice in mid-Feb then he will appear in games in mid-March, on a minutes restriction with no back to backs. I had stashed until the February news. Now it will be too late to get him in game condition for more than 15 mpg I think. Perfect for tanking, coincidentally.
claptondecheeks 1,017
"Having Porzingis stay in New York this week [...] means Porzingis and the Knicks are still serious about him returning this season. He will be reevaluated in mid-February, going through a baseline of tests when it likely will be decided if he will return. A rumor floated last week that the Knicks prefer for him to sit out the season while Porzingis wants to play, creating tension. According to a source close to the situation, it is an off-base premise. The source said Knicks management wants him back — as long as Porzingis is mentally and physically ready to go." https://nypost.com/2019/01/15/kristaps-porzingis-not-making-london-trip-an-encouraging-sign/
CityBaller8 103
Everything is a rumor and teams keep their business private , they’re essentially re-building a robot since he’s so young. His game doesn’t revolve around a ton of athleticism as his length and continued growth of his body will allow him to do spectacular things without relying on explosiveness. With what they are able to do in modern medicine he might be even stronger, from d rose to Parker to Lavine and even a closer player resembling KP is Danilo gallinari on the Los Angeles clippers, came back fine. mbbdogg 4
I'm sure we all saw the news he's on dallas now. I dont see him playing for them this season, but who knows.
drummerboy7816 20
I picked up him just to see what news comes out the next week or so.. NY obviously has a strong reason to not play him and tank. Mavs don't. So if he was secretly ready and being held back by NY... who knows.
flat_eric 362
I don't see him making a fantasy impact, but if you have an IR spot it's worth the gamble.

mbroo5880i 915
I doubt he plays this season. Dallas is in 12th place in the WC. Nothing in this deal shifts their focus on working for a high draft pick this season. No reason to risk his recovery in a battle for the 8th seed only to play the Warriors.

Chrizz 464
He suffered the torn ACL almost exactly one year ago. Does anyone know why it takes that long for bball players to recover from that kind of injury? Soccer players are back way sooner. some players dont even need 6 months to be back on the field... Yes move itself isnt bad but seeing Porzingis gone and AD soon to be traded is dissapointing in a way.

Its very tough injury,10+ years ago basically a potential carreer ending. I didnt really heard someone missing only 6 months, maybe in a case of partial torn but fully torn acl is min 1 year. With Porzingis is obviously more complicated because this injury has more chances to happen again to freakishly tall players like him and its easier to handle if injured player is someone bulkier (like pj tucker idk) Edited February 1, 2019 by Kicker

While ACL repairs have become more common place with elite athletes, there are still issues with extremely tall athletes. Normally, they can come back to play but it isn't until the following season they return to a level close to their previous level, if they return to that level at all. I have seen soccer players who never quite return to their original level of explosiveness. Then you have guys like Robbie Hummel in basketball.
