Lol. If he leaves, he's a snake, traitor, ring-chaser, etc. If he stays, he's 'soft'.

Close,  they're 2x dumber

Apologies if anyone already posted this but...

Noooooo RIP Keston Hirua.

Shaw is not the answer at 2B which is where he will have to move with Moose back in the fold.  But look for one of them to be flipped to another team when Hirua is called up and proves he can hit major league pitching.

Meanwhile as the "Manny Harper" soap opera turns:

Quote

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Bryce Harper will ultimately land a larger contract than the 10-year, $300 million offer that he turned down from the Nationals in September.

All of the momentum in the Harper sweepstakes seems to be behind the Phillies, who are expected to land the superstar outfielder. While no deal has been finalized, it does look like we are finally nearing an end to this saga. The White Sox, Padres, Giants and Nationals are still believed to be in the mix as well, but the Phillies look to be the clear favorites at the moment.

And Manny is changing his tune fast.  Maybe SD has a chance since it was reported that Manny will take the highest offer as opposed to only wanting to play on the east coast.  But that report just disappeared before I could copy and past it here which is weird.

  • According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Padres' offer to Manny Machado is as high as $280 million over eight years.

That's a nice increase over the over the $240 million that other clubs have reportedly offered. The Padres were also creative in the way they structured the contract for Eric Hosmer last offseason and could be looking to do something similar here. As of now, the Padres look to be in the lead in the race for Machado.

  • Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Padres have made serious offers to both Manny Machado and Bryce Harper.

The offer to Machado, according to Heyman, is believed to be for eight-years and around $250 million, while their offer to Harper is believed to be north of $300 million total. The Padres have seemingly emerged as the favorites to land Machado, while it looks increasingly likely that Harper may end up with the Phillies.

Does Machado play SS in San Diego and thus bump Fernando Tatis Jr to 3B? Or does Manny play 3rd and FTJ stays at SS?

I think Manny would play SS until Yaris is brought up - then move to 3B. Yaris is supposed to be a great defensive SS. Manny is a great defensive 3B. Win-win for both.

This is obviously IF he signs in San Diego.

so now the elephant in the room is the Phillies have to pony up for Harper. Harper can almost ask for a blank check because the Phillies made noise that wanted to spend stupid money. with Machado signed the only real home run option left is Harper.

The actual quote was "and maybe be a little stupid" with the money.  There's a lot of wiggle room there, and the team has walked it back several times.  Harper's leverage is his willingness to go elsewhere and nothing more -- fan expectations are unlikely to change the dynamic.

I'm just looking forward to this wrapping up so I never have to hear the phrase "maybe be a little stupid with it" again. Seriously, I don't think MLB has posted anything without that quote in it for the last three months.
