I wound up drafting both Hampson and McMahon.

Always bet on black. And red.

I just did the same inn my draft tonight.  Took McMahon in like the last round.  Hampson was really late as well.  Interested to see what happens here.

Too bad I got Hampson in the 1 league that I have Lindor and Story.

Why?  He is a 2B and will play some on the OF and will only play SS when Story sits which, owning Story as well, makes that an ideal situation for you.

Lucky for you... Hampson was taken in the 11th rd in my Yahoo 12 man winners league draft.  No way I'll draft him that early.  McMahon was drafted in the 19th rd.  I would have loved to get Hampson... maybe next year.

I meant because SS tends to be the thinnest position in fantasy, other than Catchers. So guys get increased value by having SS eligibility. But I picked Lindor and Story early on.  Hampso could've been more valuable on one of my other rosters. In this league right now Hampson can only start at SS, MI, or UT.  It will help to get more position eligibility.  I hope these guys roles become more defined closer to opening day.

I think 2B is far thinner and he play a lot there this season.  SS is really pretty deep.  Maybe even the deepest position.

By "tends to be" you mean "used to be".  It's not the case anymore, at the moment.  SS is currently deeper than 1B.

In the long term Hampson vs McMahon standoff, I choose Brendan Rodgers.

I think Hampson will end up in the OF long term regardless of who eventually ends up at 2nd.  That will probably come down to Rodgers vs McMahon.

BR doesn't look all that dissimilar from RM according to their stats. I'm not sure about defense, however. Rodgers doesn't seem to strike out as much, but also doesn't seem to walk as much. McMahon has a higher OBP and SLG than Rodgers. That said, I don't disagree with your statement. If McMahon plays well to start, it would seem that Hampson's future leans toward CF. Maybe even if McMahon struggles again and cedes 2B to Hampson, Garrett's longterm outlook is in the outfield.

I'd expect both to get ABs early in the season which could be problematic for owners if they are in a split of sorts, or close to it.  If both do decent then the quagmire for playing time could continue unless a spot opens up by way of injury, benching, or demotion.

I was more worried about Hampson getting sent down.  Since he wasn’t, he should get a chance to showcase his ability and, if he delivers, make it very hard to keep him out of the lineup.  If he becomes a Ben Zobrist type of multi position guy that only helps his fantasy value.  He looks like their best fit for the leadoff spot

Sure, if by 'showcase' you mean 3 starts a week--at best ;)

It's the Rox, they mothball their prospects until their hands are forced. Look, I like this kid but anyone expecting consistent ABs in the early going is kidding themselves, imo.

Rockies just posted the lineup. It will be McMahon starting. I need an OF bad. I can't afford to keep Hampson on my bench.

He’ll be a UTL man he may sit a game or 2 a week but he’ll play quite a bit.  It’s like Kingery last year he didn’t really have a position but he played all over just about everyday until they realized he was awful.
