David Johnson 2019 Outlook

I felt the same before the games.  He has the worst supporting cast in the league.  They brought in a rookie coach with a rookie qb.  It’s gonna be amateur hour this year.

That's why I'm saying...in the middle of the first round, give me Hopkins or Adams over DJ and I'll grab my RB1 next round. It feels weird to be drafting this guy right after Saquon, CMC, Kamara, Zeke. If I'm in the 5th spot I'd not be happy getting DJ right after you see those guys get taken...I think the gap between them and DJ is far greater than the gap between DJ and the second tier RBs.

Would have been nice if he said this before the game.

Did your backup get all the reps in your furniture moving business while you were out?  That’s the only part of your analogy that us Chase Edmonds owners care about.

this is what fantasy football has come to 🤦🏻‍♂️

Johnson may or may not turn out to be a disappointment, but it will have very little to do with this preseason game. Lest you forget, Todd Gurley had 4 carries for 2 yards in week 2 of the preseason in 2017 under some new young coach as they struggled to score 13 points against Dallas. That Arizona offense was maybe 5% of what it will be in the regular season.

Just remember that this is what was being said about DJ after ARI drafted him in 2015 by supposed gurus Evan Silva and Josh Norris:

(starts at 12:40-15:45)

https://www.podcastone.com/episode/RTFF-64--Josh-Norris-502719

Silva was calling him "the Blaine Gabbert of running backs", and Norris agreed.  LOL.

Always a good practice to look back to see what the so-called pundits were saying about elite players when they entered the league.

Lmao. The Blaine Gabbert of running backs. That's gold

People actually paying other people to tell them how to draft or play their fantasy games? Unreal. The whole point of fantasy sports is to create your own team. Your Fantasy team, hence the name. Reading articles and getting breaking news from these insiders definitely will put you at an advantage. But paying a lot of money for them though, is just pathetic.

Went off a tangent there. Back to topic, DJ definitely my favorite RB in real life and fantasy to watch this year. 1,000 catching yards 1,000 running yards was his goal before injuries, I think he’ll have a chance to do that this year.

Cam Newton was horrible in his rookie preseason, but when the regular season started he flipped a switch and at the end of the year he was the #3 QB.  That said, I don't see that happening with the Cardinals this season.

I agree with you in regards to paying for fantasy info. There is so much free stuff out there. It's like paying for porn.

The difference is AZ's offensive line is horrible. Unfortunately, a bad offensive line can ruin it for everybody.

Two years ago we thought the Rams line was bad too. Maybe not terrible but no one saw Whitworth or Sullivan, two old guys even then, making such a huge difference. New schemes and coaching played a role too and Arizona has that going for them as well. I don’t expect them to be great or anything, but I think they’ll be a lot better than last year.

Love DJ this year but in a PPR to take him over Nuk or even Julio is lunacy

Agreed, even in half ppr which is what I'm playing. Davante Adams as well you can put in that tier.

I just took him at 5 in half pt ppr over zeke and right after Hopkins.  He's going to get a ton of touches and will be Kyler's safety outlet out of the backfield.  IMO a super safe RB1.

That's a hella bold move , over Zeke. It might pay off who knows until were deep into the season. Everything is a guessing game really, if you love the player and you believe in him, gotta go for it. I think Zeke is the safer pick to be honest, but this is all contingent on him playing week1 obviously. I think Arizona will be actually half way decent this year, just not immediately to start the season. Some growing pains will be there , but it won't be a dumpster fire.

Zeke still the pick. Sorry. But still it's a solid pick.

Any rb that's in a holdout is not a safe pick

Really .. you don't say . I draft late , Sept 2. Obviously if he hasn't reported by then different scenario. The general consensus is he will be available week 1. I forget there's alot of amateur leagues that draft early.

This is exactly why every league should be an auction league.

Does it concern anyone that Kyler does not have many passes to RB's in college?

I mean I love me some DJ this year but worried the receptions take a dip. I could see 20-30 missed opportunities this year when Murray just takes off running vs checking it down

I agree there will be missed opportunities for Johnson because Murray can run. I think the Cardinals will send Johnson out on significantly more routes than last year which should make up for this. I saw a stat where Johnson was only sent on like 48 routes last  year compared to 160 ish in 2016.
