Stefon Diggs 2019 Outlook

For those of you that missed the game, the Giants secondary has improved just slightly. They are still one of the worst defensive units in football. The Giants could barely stop them in the first half. Cousins had all day to throw the ball and still Diggs can only muster this box score. You really wont see this passing attack in a better gamescript.

Diggs owners should be concerned.

Positive: Cousins actually played well

Negative: Cousins played well and Diggs only had 4 targets

Diggs looked great when he actually had a ball thrown his way.

Minnesota only had about 64 offensive snaps which is on the low side

The problem is they don't throw to him much. They run as much as possible and when they throw they lock onto Thielen.

Thielen had 2 catches for 6 yards last week while Diggs had 7 for 108.

I get it, this wasn't good.  But that's not a consistent assessment.

On a week where this was supposed to be a "feed the receivers" week, they still ran 7 more times than passing.

This team isn't built for two receivers, and won't be going forward. It's unfortunate but this is the old Dallas team: run forward, control the clock. It's a fantasy hardship for any receivers, and any fantasy players going against Minnesota.

Avoid at all costs.

Diggs has 17 receptions for about 250 yards in five games. You are cherry picking the one game Diggs did anything. For context, these numbers are worse than Sanu's...

I'm just saying, Thielen's had one game over 55 yards this year.  They aren't "locking on to Thielen."

Stats before today's game:

Diggs:

19 targets, 13 receptions, 209 yards, 1 receiving TD

Thielen:

22 targets, 13 receptions, 179 yards, 2 receiving TD's

The coaches heard Diggs loud and clear this week!  And it motivated them to give a fantasy blow up game to... Adam Thielen.

LOL.

Quite.  Guess they were serious about not trading him, they certainly weren't about showcasing him.

The upshot is, of the three passes they completed in the second half, he caught one of them.

Why are you erasing 20 percent of the sample size?

Thielen has 20 receptions for 309 yards and 4 TDs. That is a 64 catch, just under 1,000 yards and 13 TD pace.

Diggs has 16 receptions for 253 yards and 1 TD. That is a 51 catch, 809 yard, 3 TD pace.

So I stand corrected. It isn't "locking onto Thielen" (although Thielen has 30 percent more targets)-- but it is Thielen being the only fantasy relevant WR in the Vikings offense. Take away the big name and what you see are WR5-WR6 numbers from Diggs. Thielen is still in the WR2 discussion due to his TD rate.

Diggs prorated numbers are worse than those of Sanu last year or Sanu this year and Sanu is a prototypical WR5. The Diggs as a borderline WR1 dream is over.

Even if he has a few random decent weeks (like any starting WR does), after 1/3 of the season it's clear the Vikings can only support one viable pass catcher per game. How often will that be Thielen and how often Diggs?

That's a bit more on target.

Diggs has basically had 2 startable games and three turd bombs.  Last week, against the Bears, because of the yardage, and two weeks prior, against the Packers, he got bailed out by the TD.

The Falcons, Raiders and this game he was replaceable with any bum on the wire.

As I see it, you may want to use him in games with teams that have the offense to score on their defense, or teams that can stop their rushing attack.

Next week against Philly is a possibility.  Lions, Cowboys. Chiefs, Seahawks, Chargers and second Packers tilt are others.  But no, obviously he isn't an every week starter but a boom or bust fringe guy.  Dress accordingly.
