Flyman75 5,076
Evan Engram exploded on the scene as a rookie...something rookie TEs rarely do. He didn't have an awful 2018 season...it was just riddled with injuries was a disappointment in comparison to the expectations following such a promising 2017. Even so, he was just off his catches-per-game average in 2017, and both his yards-per-game and yards-per-catch increased in 2018. If he had played a full 16-game schedule, he would have been the TE6 this past season...or TE7 if O.J. Howard had played 16 games. In a bad offense, he's produced a 16-game pace of 67-800-5. Not bad, but I know we'd all like to see more TDs from him. I mentioned in the Howard thread that I think the young TEs are going to make the position deeper in the near future, and I believe Engram can and will be a part of that. He's too talented and too athletic to just fade away. Most encouraging...in his final four games of the season, he was targeted 31 times, producing 22-320-1. Man...if he can carry something close to that over into 2019, we could be getting ready to see a nice breakout season. Is 70-1000-6 out of the question for him? How do you assess his capabilities in his third NFL season, assuming he'll be healthy?
Boudewijn 4,638
To a certain extent, Engram was the only viable receiver in NY after Odell went down in 2017, and in 2018, Engram's best games came again after Odell got injured (his numbers are double in 2018 for the games where Odell didn't play - from 3/35 per game to 6/80). What I also noticed in his stats for 2017/2018 is how his catch rate has improved from 55% to 70%, which is huge; but I found that's actually in line with Eli's throws. In 2017, Eli had a lot of trouble going deep (45% completion vs 79% short) whereas in 2018 that was 67% vs 87% (which might well be in line with the rest of the league). Also to note that Engram in 2017 was targeted 22 times deep and caught only 6; in 2018 he was basically restricted to the short game, and only had some deep throws with Odell out. So. For Engram to do well in 2019, he needs: - stay healthy and play well - Eli healthy and throwing well - preferably one of the other offensive stars to go down. If both Odell and Saquon stay healthy, I predict a year of 50/600/4; if he gets a chance to step up, that could all double.
TTo34 2,956
Staying away unless he makes it to pick 120+. Showed nothing with OBJ on the field, and Shurmer doesn't appear to care about using his talented TE.

Agree here, especially if they draft Haskins or Kyler. I can see the rooks leaning on the TE big time next year.
Flyman75 5,076
I like Engram this year the more I think about it and now with OBJ gone. If he can remain healthy, I believe Engram has a real chance to take a real step up this season.

I love that he cant block well because it makes the giants not wanna use him to pass block. This is the guy I'm targeting but I've been wrong before.. alot
dashoe 6,462
Shepard +Tate+Engram+Barkley All used in short to intermediate passing game. . . so who exactly is the field stretcher and how are those targets going to be allocated?😱

I assume theyll move shepherd out wide and let Tate be slot. Shepherd played something like 400 snaps out wide last season so I guess he's capable.. as for a true burner and field stretcher idk if they got one but I also dont know if that's necessary not like anyone was worried eli was gonna throw it deep anyway but what do I know. SharkSwimmer 4,947
I think Engram certainly has a chance to be very useful in fantasy this year. I remember Eli used to pepper dad-runner Larry Donnell with end zone targets. Engram has athleticism to burn. Think of him as a fast Greg Olsen who can jump higher. Eli has had some fantasy-relevant TE's in his career. Bennett and Shockey. And even Engram as Eli already made Engram relevant during Engram's rookie season. I like Engram's opportunity this season, but he was very inefficient his rookie season. Maybe if he gets a similar amount of targets in 2019 he can replicate his 2017 season. the_dying_dream 188
How does Jones affect Engram? Does Jones like the TE? I feel like the qb is going to have a lot of influence over his future there
SharkSwimmer 4,947
Jones appears to be an Eli clone in almost every way, plus young QBs often rely on their TEs when the chips are down. I would say Engram's value stays pretty stable regardless of Eli or Jones being under center.
bomont 805
I think this is your classic mid-tier TE with a likable upside. If you aren't going big on a top TE, IMO this is probably your best bet for a fallback position.

yossarian 3,524
I think he could be in line for a really big season given all the injuries and suspensions to various Giants WRs. Eli has to throw it to somebody. He can't just dump it off to Barkley 45 times a game. Can he?
bomont 805
Serious overreaction here. Shepherd is expected back for Week 1 and even if Tate's ruling is upheld, he's only out 4 weeks, I don't see Engram's value climbing much at all, and IMO it doesn't have much farther to go. It's not like he's going to be lumped in with Ertz/etc.
SenatorSpaceman 2,523
2019 Engram with Beckham in uniform: -23 catches and 33 targets in seven game 2019 Engram without Beckham in uniform: -22 catches and 31 targets in four games Opportunity will be Engram's friend this year. Eli has already shown a strong inclination to lean on him when OBJ was out of the lineup. He likely won't finish top 2-3 at the position, but he has solid upside and projects to be utilized very heavily in 2019. He could end up being a garbage time darling. I think the current price tag is close to appropriate. Edited August 6, 2019 by SenatorSpaceman

I like what you did here so I will add some more: 2017: Without Beckham (9 games) - 44 catches, 79 targets, 5 TD's (did not count week 16 since he left with rib injury and did not play in week 17. Only counted week 6-15) - 5 games over 60 receiving yards 2017: With Beckham (5 games) - 19 catches, 34 targets, 1 TD - 1 game over 60 receiving yards 2018: Without Beckham (4 games) - Averaged 79 receiving yards per game 2018: With Beckham (7 games) - Averaged 37 receiving yards per game 13 games without Beckham: 66 catches, 110 targets, 6 TD's (quick 16 game projection: 81 catches, 1050 yards, 8 TD's....Too much?)
