Irv Smith Jr. 2019 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Gronk could retire would NE take this guy?

Alabama’s Irv Smith Jr. was determined to be a wide receiver in high school.

Never mind that he’s the son and nephew of former NFL tight ends and is built for that position, too.

He caved to the reality his junior year at Brother Martin High School in New Orleans and moved to the family’s favored position full time. Now, he has become a dangerous option for the Crimson Tide as both a pass catcher and blocker heading into Monday night’s national championship game against Clemson at Levi’s Stadium.

He finally realized that you don’t have to be a wide receiver to get a lot of glory,” said Irv Smith Sr., a former first-round draft pick by the New Orleans Saints.

It  took two years of high school for the 6-foot-4, 241-pound Smith to fully embrace life as a blocking/catching tight end, and two more at Alabama before he started getting any recognition.

Smith, whose uncle Edward played for three NFL teams from 1997-99, has emerged from O.J. Howard’s shadow.

He has been a beneficiary of a more explosive, pass-oriented Alabama offense led by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and coordinator Mike Locksley.

Fant, Hockenson, Smith Jr, and Sternberger. They could go in any order in the draft. Gotta do some work to find some separation between these four and rank them. Initial idea is that Fant has the most athletic talent so would be the best dynasty asset but it’d be prudent to dig deeper than just that, as Hockenson majorly out produced Fant on the same team this year

Anyone think this guy could leap Rudolph this year? Vikes want to run more 2 te formations and with diggs injury history this guy could rack up some numbers moving around. A lot of praise from coaches and they are lacking in weapons after thielen diggs and Cooks by the way it’s s 2te league that I play in so kind of a reach for this year. Deff someone with a ton of value if Rudolph goes down

I think we are on the verge of seeing Irv Smith Jr. jump Rudolph -- led the team in receiving yards (while also having another 22yr catch called back on penalty) with the increase in snap count this past week. Believe this continues as we progress through the season -- makes for a good add for teams scrapping the bottom of the TE-barrel.

Available in 99% of leagues
