^ the second video clip has pretty awful announcing:  pop up...no it's carrying for a homerun..no it's caught by the centerfielder..no it's gone.  😂  Sounds like a young Phil Rizzuto!

Do they start him in Low A?

At 18 with only 22 PA in rookie ball so far, I doubt he starts in a full-season league. My guess is he’ll be at extended spring training and then either back to rookie or maybe short-season A if they’re feeling really good about him. He could move quickly after that though.

So far, Valera has 6 K and 0 BB in 22 AB, including a 1-for-5 with 2 K Wednesday.

There’s no question he can make hard contact with that pretty swing but is it too early to be concerned about his plate skills?

Yes it is far too early for that. 22 ABs is nothing.

I never get concerned about batting averages or ISO over short sample sizes or 100 PAs but I’ve found that plate skills hold steady even over limited samples.

He walked 3 times in 21 plate appearances at rookie ball last year. So which one is accurate if plate skills hold steady?

Rookie ball has wild pitchers that hand out walks left and right. I expect him to walk in the Arizona League even if he has subpar plate skills.

Not even a little bit
