2019 Call Up Watch Thread

Message added by tonycpsu

This thread is for discussion of confirmed and/or imminent call-ups.  If you've seen news that someone has been called up, or informed speculation from reputable sources that someone may be on their way to the show soon, feel free to share these items with the community here.  Do not ask "who's going to be called up next?" -- that's what the thread is for, so asking is superfluous.  Also, do not use this thread for deep dives into specific minor league players -- that's what their MiLB outlook threads are for.

Anthony Alford reportedly making opening day roster with Jays after Morales trade.

I just hope they give him some playing time. Pillar is awesome fielder but Alford is going to take his job. A post hype guy I am really high on. Just needs some PT but being on the opening roster is blessing for him. Had a great ST and i'm hoping his time is now. Maybe even a chance at some DH now that Morales is gone.

The Royals call up lefty Richard Lovelady. He could be a factor in the back end of their shaky 'pen real soon. He closed games going up the ladder for several Royal affiliates despite his lefty status.

Even though he's only 6-foot tall, he reportedly uses a low arm slot and extension to create deception. Slider is his out-pitch and has sweeping action.

Not lights out, but a good arm in a really weak bullpen.

Erik Swanson, SP for Seattle, getting called up. According to RW he’ll pitch in long relief, but I think he’d be mixed league relevant if given a shot to start.

Pedro Avila to make his debut for Padres today.

Decent K numbers in the minors (including a 17K game), and performed okay in Spring Training. Doesnt have overpowering stuff, but im intrigued for his long term value. Smaller guy at 5'11''. Could just be a spot start to give Paddack an extra day, and Avila got the call partially due to other Padres SP prospects struggling in their season debuts.

The previously-mentioned Swanson is a candidate to take LeBlanc's rotation spot after his oblique injury, but alternatively it could be Justus Sheffield:

Quote

Sheffield checks in as Rotowire's No. 6-ranked prospect in the Mariners organization, but he's struggled in the early going with the Rainiers. Nevertheless, he and Tacoma teammate Erik Swanson are reportedly the top options to replace LeBlanc in the rotation if he's to miss at least one start.

Braves recalled RHP Touki Toussaint from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Toussaint will work out of the bullpen for now, though he should get some starts eventually. The 22-year-old top prospect posted a 4.03 ERA with 32 strikeouts over his first 29 major league innings in 2018.

[Bickering deleted & notice added at the top explaining that this thread is for discussion of confirmed and imminent call-ups.  It is not, contrary to the statements of some, only for announcing call-ups, but it's also not a free-form discussion thread.  Please keep noise to a minimum, but *do not* attack others or complain when things going off topic -- report the posts to us instead.]

Toussaint already got the call to be in the bullpen, but with Newcomb getting optioned he looks like he's going to step into the rotation. If you passed on adding him due to this you may want to make a move now.

Here is a "call down" that seems ok to list in the call-ups.  Lourdes Guerriel Jr was sent down after a slow start.  He is now NA but could be back up real real soon if you have a NA slot handy and a frustrated owner has dropped him.

he has the Chuck Knoblaugh throwing yipes from 2B.  Blue Jays brass says he will only DH at AAA until he gets over the yipes.
