2019 Call Up Watch Thread

Message added by tonycpsu

This thread is for discussion of confirmed and/or imminent call-ups.  If you've seen news that someone has been called up, or informed speculation from reputable sources that someone may be on their way to the show soon, feel free to share these items with the community here.  Do not ask "who's going to be called up next?" -- that's what the thread is for, so asking is superfluous.  Also, do not use this thread for deep dives into specific minor league players -- that's what their MiLB outlook threads are for.

Yankees purchased the contract of 1B Mike Ford from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The move is now official, with Greg Bird hitting the disabled list with a plantar fascia tear. Ford should see some part-time at-bats moving forward. The numbers in Triple-A weren't great last year, but he was off to a hot start this season and could be worth a look in AL-only formats.

As a reminder, this thread is often used for the RW community to receive triggered notifications when players are called up. As a courtesy to those persons, we try to limit other ancillary discussion

Michael Chavis called up

Details:

Red Sox recalled INF Michael Chavis from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Chavis is more of a third baseman, but he's played some second base at Pawtucket this season and will see time there with Dustin Pedroia (knee), Eduardo Nunez (back) and Brock Holt (eye) on the shelf. The 23-year-old missed a large chunk of last season following an 80-game PED suspension, but he hit well when on the field and had slugged four homers over his first 12 games for Pawtucket this season. He's worth a flier in deeper formats. Tzu-Wei Lin is also up and will see time at second base.

Nate Lowe's time has come:

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Rays are calling up 1B prospect Nate Lowe on Monday.

Lowe was named the Rays' Minor League Player of the Year for 2018 and was batting .300/.444/.543 with three home runs and 14 RBI through 21 games this season at Triple-A Durham. He hit .330/.416/.568 with 27 homers and 102 RBI over 130 games last season between three different levels. The 23-year-old should get regular starts between first base and DH against right-handed opponents and is worth a look in mixed fantasy leagues.

Two more prospects coming up:

Multiple reports state that the Athletics will call up OF prospect Skye Bolt before Friday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Bolt will come up, and Ryan Dull will be sent down to add him to the 25-man roster. The A's won't need to make a move to the 40-man roster, as he was protected from the Rule 5 draft in November. Bolt has crushed Triple-A pitching to the tune of .333/.409/.692 with six homers and six doubles. He also has one of the best names you'll ever hear in your life, which is fun. It'll be interesting to see how much playing time Bolt gets with the A's, but at the very least, he's a name that's worth monitoring.

Liked her humor about what is one cool name.  And on the team across the bay, we have have another:

Tyler Beede is expected to start in Cincinnati on Friday for the Giants in place of the injured Derek Holland (finger).

Advice: Beede is coming off back-to-back disappointing seasons but is off to a fantastic start at Triple-A Sacramento, posting a 1.99 ERA and 34/10 K/BB ratio over 22 2/3 innings in his first five starts. It doesn't sound like Holland will be out long, so it could be just a spot start for Beede and he would be a risky streamer.

This guy thinks it is a quick fill-in but honest what do the Giants have to lose at this point.  Maybe this piece of mud will stick to the wall.
