Alec Bohm - 3B PHI

Recommended Posts

Supposedly best power bat on the draft last year with good hit tool... I read he's a short arm swinger so all may not translate and he's done nothing so far in the homer department... maybe he'll make a tweak or adjustment and it will click but right now no one is talking about him.. which is a shame cause I've heard a ton about people that are supposed to be less of a prospect

I think Gorman was the best power bat last year but yes Bohm is up there.

Agreed.

He just hasn't done anything yet and I mean ANYTHING. Too early to call him a bust or is the upside still there?

After 167 at bats in the minors across two seasons? That's all it is going to take to draw the conclusions for a career? I tend to give these young guys a little more time to adjust to life in the minors and wood bats and everything new coaches are throwing their way. He is getting on base. If he had 1 HR this year I don't think there would be much to say about him either way.

I just don't think he is that interesting of a prospect. I find India (another slow starter for his career) to be a much more interesting prospect.

Patience my friend. Fangraphs has Bohm ranked higher than Gorman and so does Baseball America. The tools are there. He will eventually mash.

Folks Thoughts on Bohm maybe DHing / Subbing in at 3rd Based a bit for the Phils in this abridged season ?

There are two good articles, you can find the links to them in the "Spencer Howard" thread.  They speak to how the Phils may use Bohm and Howard with service time considerations.  The GM, in the second piece, suggests that there are contingencies they will have to evaluate.

All that said, I think Bohm will be given some PA's this year but it's just speculation right now as to how many.  The Phils may opt to give Jay Bruce a number of at-bats, and on his weak side, platoon him with Bohm and/or give guys like McCutcheon and Realmuto days off from the filed but keep their bats in the lineup.  My best guesstimate is that Bohm won't see many ABs and will really have to force the issue by mashing in the games he does. Long-term though, he is good dynasty investment, imo.  Just my thoughts.

Scott Kingery on the 10 day IL along with three other Phillies all for "undisclosed injuries" and we can read between the lines.   In the meantime Bohm could benefit with more playing time in spring training 2.0 and, if it takes a long time for Kingery to recover, into the real season.

Looks like I spoke too soon. Of course, the caveat should have also been this is a truly unique season where outside the usual injuries that we have a pandemic. ha.  There may be an opportunity for some ABs from the get-go, provided they are not concerned about service time.  Again, I would suggest ppl read the articles in the Spencer Howard thread.

Yeah one of the other Phillies now on the IL is Ranger Suarez who was competing for a place on the starting rotation.  Howard may be helped by that development.

A Phillies coach in his 30's who had the virus and is back now said he ran a high fever for 6 straight days and it took 30 days before he tested safe to return and in the meantime he lost 18 lbs so this isn't a given those infected, despite their youth, will come roaring back after a couple of weeks.
