Chance Sisco 2019 Outlook

Not often when you can see the guy behind you so clearly. Sisco needs to make the O's have to make a difficult decision whenever Rutschman is ready to be called up.

With Severino playing so well, he needs to take it to another level. Time for him to step it up big time.

Rutschman was just drafted just yesterday.  It will be several years if the O's even keep Rutschman at catcher or change his position.  Since he is touted as such a great hitting prospect they may well do what other teams do and switch his position to rush his bat up quicker because catcher takes way longer to become MLB-ready since well more than half the work is learning the mental and physical tools of the catching trade.  Learning how to handle a pitching staff is harder than learning how to handle a bat and takes much longer.

Since the O's have thrown in the towel I can see Sisco catching at least 50% of games if not more for the rest of the year.  If they like what they see they either dangle him or Severino out as trade bait.  It is that time of year for a team like the O's to start "show and telling" for the trade deadline.  Which means Sisco has to play.

Hmm, 2 games and no starts so far, tells me.... well 3d chess played by orioles?

Pedro Severino has had a really good year this season so far with his epic game of 3 homers alone this week and a weekly OBP of .538 for the week because of same so yeah Sisco takes a seat to Severino in the short term for sure.

But Severino got hurt last night and came out of the game with Sisco coming in to play.

Wed, Jun 5

Pedro Severino left Wednesday's game against the Rangers after taking a foul tip to his catcher's mask.

Advice: The Orioles are calling the injury a head contusion. They also announced there are no signs of a concussion at this time. Chance Sisco has taken over behind the plate. This comes a game after he hit three homers in the Orioles' 12-11 victory.

Severino is currently listed as day-to-day.

He has batted cleanup for the Orioles for the whole Toronto series (past 3 games).  The first game of the series (6/12) he started at DH over Chris Davis......

"And I want to see Sisco play, to be honest with you." - Orioles manager Brandon Hyde

With the Orioles drafting Adley Rutschman in this past draft, it makes sense that they want to see what they have in Sisco now.  He hasn't had noticeable R/L spits in the upper minors the past couple of years.  If he is splitting time with Pedro Severino at C but also picking up starts at DH and batting cleanup he could be an interesting catching option moving forward.

Rutschman smarter than your average bear. Zero scouts are projecting a position change, and most expect him to be among the first of his class to make the leap to mlb. If Sisco produces it's going to get crowded behind the plate pretty quick in Baltimore.

Sisco is already up and producing with his bat from the get go.

From the get go means 200 AB's into his Major League career? I'm not trying to write him off, but he's been hot for a week.

There's something to be said for catchers being late developers.  This kid has always had talent, but seemingly with the bat not yet lived up with the hype.  When looking at guys like Garver and Vazquez, sometimes guys figure it out.  They of course are older than Sisco, so there is even more reason to be excited.  Not sure he is going to hit for too much average, but if he could turn into a 20-25hr .265 type, that is uber valuable, imo.

Anything to see here?

4 homers in his last 7 games but he’s still sharing time with Pedro Severino

All catchers "share" time.  And his "time share" is about average.  During the last 7 days the O's had one day off.  Of the other 6 days/games he caught 4 of them and Severino caught 2.  That is the basic ratio of most lead catchers.
