Tarik Skubal SP DET

Tigers LHP prospect Tarik Skubal struck out 11 hitters over five innings of one-hit baseball on Sunday for Double-A Erie.

Skubal allowed just one run, and it was unearned. He also walked two, so his K/BB ratio has improved to 108/21 over 85 innings. This was Skubal's first start at the Double-A level, and as you can see, it went very well. A ninth-round pick in last June's draft, the 22-year-old southpaw has been one of the best surprises in baseball -- at least in terms of prospect -- and he's showing a plus fastball/curve combo with an improved cutter/slider and change, to boot. Keep in mind that Skubal was a potential first-round pick candidate before a mediocre year at Seattle University, so this hasn't completely come out of nowhere. He's absolutely a prospect worth targeting in deep dynasty formats

"Tarik Skubal was fire again on Friday night, but his offense couldn’t back him with any support. The lefthander backed up his 11 strikeout debut last weekend with a 10 strikeout performance in this one. Of his 21 total strikeouts in 10 innings of Double-A work, every one has come on a swinging strike. Skubal mixed his curveball in quite a bit, showing a willingness to throw it in any count while mixing speeds with his fastball, topping out at 97 mph.He allowed just three hits and a walk over five innings, with a fourth inning solo shot accounting for the only blemish on his scorecard."

Dude is quickly emerging as one the top lefty pitching prospects in the game.

Watched a couple vids on YT of his stuff, it looks like it is really difficult for hitters to pick up the ball coming out of his delivery.

Yep, no radar gun so I can only go on how hitters are reacting but they are consistently late.

Watched him pitch a few times locally at Seattle U.  When the Mariners are your big league team in town you usually venture off to other college/high schools to watch real players and teams compete.  But in college he was a big riser and then fell apart the year he got drafted.  He lost command and was flying open.  The guy I went with who knows a lot more about pitching mechanics felt like he was a small correction away from harnessing what was a nice arsenal of pitches.  Looks like Tigers might of found that and now are unlocking it.  Unreal start at AA.

Think I should pick him up and keeper him or just wait and draft him next season? is he cant miss?

No such thing as a can't miss in fantasy baseball, haha, I guess it depends on how many keepers you can keep and how deep your league is.  Imo, the kid has been damn impressive so it's getting hard to keep him a secret for much longer and one of your league-mates might jump on him.

Dude's been straight Nintendo in AA

I mean yeah, for sure, can't believe people (or more specifically big pub outlets) haven't really come around much on him?

Since moving to AA, in 6 starts he has gone 29 IP -- 17 HA with a 1.86 ERA and a 60K/12BB! He's approaching top 10 SP prospect status for me, his stuff is legit.

They are so slow to update and even more scared to veer from the mainstream but statistically could Skubal really be that far behind Mize?  And after what he's been doing is it crazy to think he may end up being the better big leaguer?

? He has a great fastball and hide it well with his delivery but his secondary stuff are below average

Skubal and Mize aren't as far off as people think. Time to pump the breaks a bit on Casey, he has been great but the offspeed K pitch isn't really there for him yet.
