Just for the heck of it, I checked how many players since 2000 have gained 100 or more receiving yards in their first career game. It's a small list:

  Receiving
Rk Player Pos Age Date Lg Tm   Opp Result G# Week Day Tgt Rec Yds Y/R TD Ctch% Y/Tgt
1 Anquan Boldin WR 22.339 2003-09-07 NFL ARI @ DET L 24-42 1 1 Sun 14 10 217 21.70 2 71.4% 15.50
2 Marquise Brown WR 22.096 2019-09-08 NFL BAL @ MIA W 59-10 1 1 Sun 5 4 147 36.75 2 80.0% 29.40
3 Eddie Royal WR 22.110 2008-09-08 NFL DEN @ OAK W 41-14 1 1 Mon 11 9 146 16.22 1 81.8% 13.27
4 T.J. Hockenson TE 22.067 2019-09-08 NFL DET @ ARI T 27-27 1 1 Sun 9 6 131 21.83 1 66.7% 14.56
5 Terry McLaurin WR 23.146 2019-09-08 NFL WAS @ PHI L 27-32 1 1 Sun 7 5 125 25.00 1 71.4% 17.86
6 Allen Hurns WR 22.299 2014-09-07 NFL JAX @ PHI L 17-34 1 1 Sun 9 4 110 27.50 2 44.4% 12.22
7 Keke Coutee WR 21.259 2018-09-30 NFL HOU @ IND W 37-34 4 4 Sun 15 11 109 9.91 0 73.3% 7.27
8 Will Fuller WR 22.148 2016-09-11 NFL HOU   CHI W 23-14 1 1 Sun 11 5 107 21.40 1 45.5% 9.73
9 DeSean Jackson WR 21.281 2008-09-07 NFL PHI   STL W 38-3 1 1 Sun 10 6 106 17.67 0 60.0% 10.60
10 Will Dissly TE 22.063 2018-09-09 NFL SEA @ DEN L 24-27 1 1 Sun 5 3 105 35.00 1 60.0% 21.00
11 A.J. Brown WR 22.070 2019-09-08 NFL TEN @ CLE W 43-13 1 1 Sun 4 3 100 33.33 0 75.0% 25.00

So in the last 20 seasons, just 11 players have hit the 100-yard mark...and 4 of those 11 players were this season (including McLaurin). I then checked how the other 6 WR's fared in PPR their rookie season (along with where they were drafted):

--Boldin: #3 WR (Round 2, Pick 54)
--Royal: #14 WR (Round 2, Pick 42)
--Hurns: #49 WR (Undrafted)
--Coutee: not in top 50 - only played in 6 games due to injury (Round 4, Pick 103)
--Fuller: not in top 50 (Round 1, Pick 21)
--D.Jackson: #31 WR - and he would've been higher in leagues that count return game yardage (Round 2, Pick 49)

Overall, there were three players who were between WR1--WR3 (Boldin, Royal & Jackson), another who had some good moments and was a potential bye week fill-in (Hurns), one who got hurt and had played pretty well in half his games (Coutee), and one who underwhelmed and dealt with some injuries, though he did play 14 games (Fuller, the only 1st rounder in this select group).

This in no way means McLaurin will be a success or a failure. But it is interesting that there have been some rookie success stories for WR's who gained 100 yards in their first game (and none who disappeared without injury playing a factor).

I don't know where you're pulling stats from, and thank you for doing so many of these, by the way. Would you be able to give us the Week 2-Week 16 stats for PPR? Week 1 stats don't matter much for our purposes.

Thanks and it is from Pro Football Reference. For your question, are you asking for the rookie Week 2--16 stats for the 6 players in question? If so, that'd be a lot of info for one post, but yearly game logs can be found at Pro Football Reference for each player.

Or do you mean something else towards what you were looking for?

Nah that's what I meant, and yeah if that's how you're finding it, it does sound like a lot of legwork. Thanks though.

Here's the individual links for the rookie game logs of the 6 WR's in question. For what it's worth, only one of them (Hurns) had a bad Game 2.

How did this guy go so late in the draft? That tells you scouts don't know jack.

This kid WANTS it more and is willing to put in EXTRA work to be great.

So he's not 6 ft 4, so what! He sure ain't a slouch with that 4.35 speed and great hands.

I wouldn't be surprised if he puts up 1,100 and 8 tds this year.

The most consistent criticism of McLaurin was that he couldn't high point the ball or make hands catches.

Oops.

starting him this week because 3 WR league and I have Corey Davis as my other WR. screw that. I picked Terry over Brown in a 1 point PPR due to targets and receptions vs. possible boom bust appeal of Marquise Brown. hoping he goes off this week so that they start respecting his projections.

Even Devante Parker had a decent outing on the league's worst team. I really don't care how good the team is or who is throwing him the ball. As long as my player picks up fake points, I'm fine. Terry looks like he can do that. So I got him. No need overthinking it. Simple really. Just watched a Youtube video on the kids work ethic and mindset. Was debating between him and Marquise Brown. The intangibles are what won me over. Mature beyond his years.

Late to the party but daaang that video is 🔥🔥🔥  thanks for sharing.

Got me even more hyped for Scary T

I was surprised to see that I got him this morning on waivers from the 10th spot.  I didn't think he'd make it to me.  I'm not expecting much to be honest, but his week 1 output, snap count, and stated job as the X receiver on a team that should be playing from behind is totally worth a flyer.

I feel like everyone was chasing Brown, Ross, Hock. I had a 3 spot and had Terry as my priority out of the top adds this week due to the % of on field time / snap count that’s been floating around - think it was something like 93%. He still has relatively low ownership % ( I know it doesn’t mean much but just shows he’s still widely- ish available in leagues).

Definitely a flyer / bench for now but could be something here, I’m interested to see how week 2 pans out.
