Patrick Laird 2019 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Dumpster diving for RBs and found a fire sale Run CMC type back. Wow ... just so much unknown here with usage. Seems to have talent. In deep leagues worth a grab to see what happens. Cin has locked down the winner of the losing season award, so Miami may try and win a few games.

Edit: Just added him (he's free tonight) after watching his highlights. If Miami uses him, could be the surprise of the season. A gamble for sure.

I can’t believe there are currently 4 Dolphins RB threads on the first page of this forum.   God help us all.

He had 11 ppr points last week.. flexible already

Patrick Turd.

Ballage is beyond horrific, his longest carry this year is around 7 yards which is unbelievably bad.

Laird will take over this backfield and be a 3 down back I think as soon as today.

The upside is there especially in ppr with him being a viable weapon out of the backfield.

Welp the only problem is the coaching staff loves Ballage.  He shows out in practice but hasnt turned out in his game play. It be nice to see either the coaching staff turn to someone else or Ballage bust out but Larid holds some value in PPR if you are desperate, and we are in desperate time with playoffs around the corner. That said I'm staying clear.

Ballage has run out of chances, whether they love him or not he's not getting the job done.

Today's game should be telling, Laird has talent he just needs the opportunity.

I agree 100%. Hopefully the coaches see it that way.

I've watched Ballage and he is nothing but awful.  Laird is one of those guys who seems to find the soft spot in the zone to get open in the passing game.  He looks okay running it from my brief watch of his highlights.  He terrifies me by how tall he looks and how upright he is, while at the same time not getting his pad level low.  He looks ready to be blown up way too often.  His frame isn't that wide for an RB either. Skill set reminds me of a James White.  A competent runner who will have good games, and his bread and butter will be the passing game.

(This only about 5 minutes of watching highlights, I didn't go that indepth on it).

Would be great if some news came out before the game about him getting more touches and I would be flexing him

Feels like MIA has def taken the NE model (no surprise) about disseminating any info. Still, Laird is a great PPR speculative add imo.

I looked at the game log from last game. His 1 carry was the final play of the 1st half to run out the last few seconds. 4 of his 6 catches occurred on the last meaningless drive of the game when they were trying to just get the game over with. So even though the Dolphins were playing catchup the whole game, he really was only utilized when the team was done trying.

Not trying to talk anyone out of rostering him, just an observation. If his current usage continues it seems like he's not really catch mode back, more like we're done playing just put that guy in back. Hopefully they get him more involved today when the game still matters because it seems like Ballage is terrible.

Not sure 10 carries for 5 yards is the best showing, but he got some use in the passing game again.

10 for a TD, and some good passing gains for 12+ points in my league. In deep leagues, that's a winner. Which I did win this week.
