The Big Bat Theory 7,533
Another: Quote Daniel Norris tested positive for COVID-19. Norris was placed on the 10-day injured list without explanation late on Wednesday, but the reason is now known. The left-hander says he feels "healthy and ready" and has not had recent symptoms, but he'll need to have two negative tests before he's able to return to the field. The Big Bat Theory 7,533
Whoa! One team at least may be trying hard to get through this season despite covid: Quote According to TSN Blue Jays Reporter Scott Mitchell, Toronto Blue Jays players have been told the penalty if they are seen outside the ballpark/hotel bubble is a $750,000 fine and potential jail time. Please, remaining 29 teams, save baseball and follow this still "rumored" Jays approach. Young ball players feel invincible and are on the whole pretty bone-headed so herd those cats with any and all things. This is a good start.
Sidearmer 2,226
Not sure if this is allowed to be posted here because speculation, but Yoan Moncada was placed on 10 day IL without injury designation and no comment on reason. Sounds like its most likely COVID related. In some good news:

sleepysock 833
Some White Sox rumor insider hinted that Ruiz and Moncada were their two Covid cases a few days ago -- today both players were placed on the IL. Guessing s/he was right. Not a great day for the Southsiders.
The Big Bat Theory 7,533
First minor shut down. Doesn't seem like a big deal now but what happens once the season starts? Does a team just forfeit the game they were scheduled to play that day? Doesn't seem to be any real fast protocol here despite there being an official hundred page manual of protocols issued to teams. Quote The Astros have cancelled their scheduled workout on Saturday as a precautionary measure. Astros general manager James Click wrote in a statement that a member of the staff "was potentially exposed to a COVID-positive individual outside the organization.” The team is working with MLB and team doctors on testing protocol and cleaning before resuming workouts. The Astros also cancelled a workout on Monday after a delay in test results, so this week has been a bumpy ride, but it's better to err on the side of caution. The Big Bat Theory 7,533
Yes. Quote Aroldis Chapman tested positive for COVID-19 and is displaying mild symptoms, per Yankees manager Aaron Boone. Boone added that Chapman is "doing well," but that he's not going to be around for the foreseeable future. The Yankees' closer will need to isolate from the team for the time being and will have to produce two negative tests before being cleared to return. Chapman won't have to build a workload like a starter would, but his status for the start of the season is obviously in question. Zack Britton would presumably fill in at closer if he's not ready to go. Source: Lindsey Adler on Twitter Jul 11, 2020, 2:03 PM ET
The Big Bat Theory 7,533
Houston placed both Yonder Alverez and Jose Urquidy officially on the IL today presumably for covid reasons. So it sounds like neither will be ready by opening day (or their first pitching start with Jose) I'm thinking.

The Big Bat Theory 7,533
As Blood Brother reported in Meadows' thread, Austin Meadows has it: Quote Rays placed OF Austin Meadows on the 10-day injured list. Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times says that Meadows has tested positive for COVID-19, which explains why he's been away from camp for the last week and a half. It's unclear whether he has been displaying symptoms. Obviously, it's difficult to project when the young outfielder might be able to return. countseth 276
If Meadows has already been out 10 days or so and the quarantine is 14 days, he *might* return before the season starts. Not saying it’s gonna happen, only that it might.

Not saying it’s gonna happen, only that it might. If they put him on the IL officially today even if it is retroactive it still doesn't seem like they think he will be back when first eligible. I mean some players out they just haven't bothered to IL which I take to mean they think they would be off of it shortly. I think they are at least hedging their bets here so there will be an extra roster space on opening day if needed. Also he has to build up his body and do the spring training stuff as well once he returns.
roscobangs 270
Meadows told the Tampa Bay Times via text Thursday night that he was feeling good and looked forward to returning soon, but he didn’t have an exact date: “The first couple days I was pretty fatigued and some mild cold symptoms. But feeling ready to go now.” Players have no required minimum stay when on the injured list for COVID-19 reasons, so his return for the July 24 opener is not impossible. “I’m not really sure,” said Meadows, who hit a team-high 33 home runs last season. “Definitely eager to get back out there with the guys. We are taking it day by day.‘' https://www.tampabay.com/sports/rays/2020/07/16/rays-austin-meadows-sidelined-due-to-coronavirus/?utm_content=%40TBTimes_Sports&utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social

ST. Not sure what you mean by this, but the majority of new covid cases are being spread by 20-something singles who are bar hopping and partying with other 20 something idiots, and refusing to socially distance.

The fact that a group of mostly 20 and 30 year olds has this few positive tests is a testament to how conscientious they've been.
The Big Bat Theory 7,533
Both Atlanta catchers out with either covid or not covid ... crazy stuff. Could be something else or more likely a delay in getting new test results back after they both showed signs and needed that new test. That's BOTH Tyler Flowers AND Travis d'Arnaud out for now. I'm sure Atlanta's pitching staff is thrilled with this development. Rotoworld: Quote Tyler Flowers did not travel with the Braves for their series versus the Mets because he's showing COVID-19 symptoms. Travis d'Arnaud is also staying in Atlanta for the same reason, although neither player has tested positive for COVID-19 so far. Alex Jackson will become prime catcher in meantime with not really ready for prime time young William Contreras (Willson's younger brother) serving as the back-up catcher. The Big Bat Theory 7,533
Not good: Quote Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Harold Ramirez is one of the Marlins to have tested positive for COVID-19. The Marlins are dealing with an outbreak of positive tests for COVID-19, as Jorge Alfaro, Jose Urena and Garrett Cooper also recently tested positive. Because they tested positive while on the road, the players will have to quarantine at the team hotel in Philadelphia. Ramirez was the team's cleanup hitter in the first two games of the season.
