The Big Bat Theory 7,360
It's happening!!!! Quote Sun, Jul 26: Phillies RHP prospect Spencer Howard appears lined up to make his MLB debut on Friday night against the Blue Jays. Advice: Howard got transferred to the Phillies' alternate training site when the team set its Opening Day roster on Thursday, but it's quite obvious that the move was mostly about stunting his service time. If the Phillies wait just six games into the season to promote Howard, he will become a free agent after 2026 instead of 2025. The talented 23-year-old threw four innings in an intrasquad game Sunday in Allentown and would be on normal rest for Friday's series opener versus Toronto. He's worth rostering in most standard fantasy formats. More: Philadelphia Inquirer (Rotoworld.com)

avatoot 102
Anyone think Ian Anderson SP Braves will be called up after they just DFA'd Foltynewicz? He is currently Atlanta's 3rd best prospect at 37 overall.

Short term he is being replaced by Chad Sobotka who I know nothing about other than he is on the active roster and a relief pitcher.
Wytchclt55 290
Mets prospect left-hander David Peterson will make his MLB debut Tuesday against the Red Sox. Peterson will essentially take the spot of Marcus Stroman, who is sidelined with a calf tear. The 24-year-old was already on the team's taxi squad as they mulled over their plan for Tuesday. Selected 20th overall in 2017, Peterson put up a 4.19 ERA and 122/37 K/BB ratio over 116 innings in Double-A last year. He's not quite mixed league material in fantasy leagues, but he's capable of holding down a rotation spot moving forward. hockeyfan77 680
White Sox purchased the contract of 2B Nick Madrigal. Jeff Passan of ESPN was first with the news and it's now become official. The No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 Draft, Madrigal batted .311/.377/.414 with four home runs and 35 stolen bases across three levels in his first full pro season last year. The power is basically non-existent, but Madrigal has elite contact skills and can run, so he could be a batting average and stolen base asset immediately. The 23-year-old will presumably take over the second base job, shifting Leury Garcia to a utility role

Rabbit Maranville 1,366
Yermin Mercedes is up. From Longenhagen: Quote I believe Mercedes will one day be a Chicago sports cult hero. He’s highly entertaining and talented enough to play a relevant big league role despite being a total defensive misfit. Stout and beefy, Mercedes is built such that he looks ripped and fat at the same time. He has a needlessly noisy, punk rock swing (until he has two strikes, which I’ll get to) with a big leg kick and all kinds of pre-swing bat waggling, but it always pauses with Mercedes balanced, his hands in good position, ready to unload on the baseball, which he often does. Mercedes ditches the leg kick with two strikes, but he’s so strong that he puts balls in play — hard — without it. His route to the precipice of the big leagues has been scenic. After three years with Washington, Mercedes was cut and spent 2014 in Indy ball, including time in the Pecos League with the White Sands Pupfish. Baltimore signed him and had him for two years before losing him to Chicago in the 2017 minor league Rule 5 Draft. Mercedes has now hit his way up the ladder (a .302/.366/.491 career line, including those mediocre years with Washington that brought about his release) and has big league offensive ability — he just cannot catch. While he presents strikes to umpires well on occasion, he’ll also just totally whiffs sometimes and is constantly running to the backstop. Craig Littleman, a former coworker of mine who played for White Sands with Mercedes in 2014, told me even that team was trying to hide him on defense. He also said Mercedes was by far the team’s smartest, most talented hitter. I’m not anticipating Mercedes will be able to catch every day once automated strike zones come about, but I do think it gives him a better chance to do so once in a while and that he’ll hit enough as a DH/1B to play a part-time role anyway. Plus, he has real value as a trade chip if the universal DH is ever instituted. He’s a good, relevant hitting prospect despite his age. Fat(stout and beefy?) chance he sees any time behind the plate with Grandal, McCann, and Collins also on the roster. He's also blocked for PA's at the DH spot, especially with McCann hitting well again this year. Someone to keep an eye on, and would almost certainly be a top-10 C play on any day he's in the starting lineup. 1
Rabbit Maranville 1,366
Appending the Yermin post: Upon further research, he did log a couple of innings in LF in two Summer Camp games. Played some 3B during intrasquad games. Apparently made a gem in left against Eloy

The Big Bat Theory 7,360
Actually THREE Tigers, not just two: Quote Tigers general manager Al Avila announced that the club will call up top prospects Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal to make their major league debuts this week against the White Sox. The club is also calling up prospect shortstop Isaac Paredes. Skubal is slated to pitch on Tuesday while Mize will go on Wednesday. Mize, who holds a 2.71 ERA, 0.967 WHIP and 120/26 K/BB ratio over 123 minor league innings, will understandably get most of the attention here. He's a must-grab where he's still available in fantasy leagues. However, don't overlook Skubal. The 23-year-old southpaw had a 2.42 ERA and 179/37 K/BB ratio over 122 2/3 innings between High-A and Double-A last year and entered 2020 as a top-50 prospect according to Baseball America and MLB Pipeline. He also qualifies as a must-pickup in mixed leagues. The Tigers sit at 9-10 on the year and have a legitimate shot at sneaking into a Wild Card spot with the expanded playoff structure. These prospects could make things interesting as far as that is concerned. Fun times in Detroit. Source: Jason Beck on Twitter Aug 17, 2020, 12:03 PM ET It's a jungle out there.
