turner46 873
1st draft of the year so don't know my round by round targets yet so may regret starting P-P. deGrom was a slam dunk choice at 11 to me but when I dug deeper into Bellinger, Lindor and Bryce at pick 14 I went with Bauer so in hindsight Yelich was likely the pick at 11 but we shall see how things play out. Typically I like to plan my draft out for when to target certain positions or certain categories. For example last year speed that didn't hurt you in other categories dried up fast and also SS had targets in damn near every round so I would draft speed early and if when on the clock a SS and a different position were the best available on the board I would go with the other position. I think I’m ok with 3 or 2 over 1.1 tho. Last year aces got a big bump in the short season and that’s carried over it seems to this year. I’m not sold we have a full season next years either. Turning down lindor freeman or Harper is tough but I don’t mind pitcher pitcher there. I think we’re going to see a lot of people do that this season who are drafting at the back end of the first round. Good luck! I may do one of these soon too.

Betts is a slightly safer pick but no way is he the easy choice over perhaps the best hitter in the game, entering his fourth year and still in his early 20s. One of these years Soto is going to have a pants-on-head crazy year and it certainly could come in 2021. I used the laughing reaction purely for the "pants on head" reference. That is great and I'm stealing it for future use.

Only 1 time in the past few 5 years did he finish outside of the top 15. (a fluky year where he was dealing with some injuries). B He has the highest ceiling. Just look at 2018 for example. Juan Soto can hit for that average and power but he won't steal 30 bases. C he is playing on an elite team D he will never lose a late At Bat to be pinch run for or for his defense E He is entering his prime age at age 27 (turning 28). 89Topps 2,737
All this talk about Trout being, essentially a zero in the SB department. Are we certain that's the case? Juan Soto gets credit for giving you "some" SBs. He had 12 in 2019. Trout had 11 (in 134 games). I know Soto had 6 last year to Trout's 1 (out of only 2 attempts), but are we sure that wasn't just Trout not bothering to steal bases in a shortened season where Anaheim was out of it? I guess what I'm asking is, are we certain Trout doesn't give us, at least double digit bags? Depth Charts and Steamer project him for 10. And would it floor anyone if he gave you 20?

Trout is definitely getting unloved this season, which is hilarious given that he's still considered a top 5 player. We should all bet he'll steal over 10 bases (he's never not done that in a full season...), with the definite possibility of reaching 20. I think the AVG rebounds as well and he hits .300. For me Trout is the #3 after Soto and Acuna, but I wouldn't fault anyone for going #1 or #2 with him. I like Soto more due to the insane plate discipline and Acuna due to the fact that we know he's going to run. Then it's Betts due to the high floor at #4, and Tatis at #5 as I'm not so sure he keeps his K% down and SS is insanely deep (I mean you can get Lindor at #16 and it's possible he outperforms Tatis in 2021).

Well if we look at just the past 3 years... 53 (out of 60) - pro rated to 143 120 144 That's three straight seasons of missing some time. This may not be an indicator of him getting another injury this year, but I think its certainly fair to say he's been injury prone the last few years.
KingJoffrey 926
Aww it was the best of times..it was the worst of times.... This will be the first year I can remember that the top 12 will be totally up for question and debate. Do you grab a great overall player who may be a bit of a drag on the ever so scarce category of stolen bases? Do you grab a premier SS when there's the most SS depth in maybe the history of fantasy baseball? How about a legit N#1 pitcher ..with all the risks that come from doing that? How do you balance last year's woes with all the long term history?
