Atlanta will be no better if he is played at the 5 he is an awful defender and they didn't get a defensive wiz in Capela to not play him. They have playoff aspirations and wont get there with Collins at the 5. Personally would sell high when he goes on a good run. Lots of rumors he gets dealt as he wants a max and Hawks dont want to pay him

Seems logical that ATL would split the PF/C rotation 3ways with 32 mins apiece for Capela/Collins/Gallo, but I'm still tentative on Capela even though I love the guy.  Just did a mock where he went 44th and that's a bit too rich for my blood.  I'd be more interested in the 55+ range

EDIT: lol I thought this was the Capela thread.  My bad

Collins is a dude who thinks hes way better than he actually is. Capela is under contract and the only reason Hawks have a chance at the playoffs given how atrocious they are defensively. Collins is in the last year of his deal and wants max money. Hawks also paid big money for Gallo and have Hunter and Reddish who can be just as good if not better than Collins and wouldn't cost as much imo

I agree with most of this. He's a better fantasy asset than real-life asset (if demanding max money). But if the Hawks don't envision a future with Collins in it, would it not still benefit them to run him out there as often as possible to maintain his trade stock and keep Capela and Gallinari relatively fresh for the playoffs? If Collins is traded, will he not receive 30+ minutes per game with his new team?

My biggest issue with JC is that he's going to play away from the basket more often with Capela there. The block numbers are going to decline. But I still think he's a lock to finish with a line that looks like: ~56% FG, ~77% FT, 1 three, 19 points, 9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, .7 steals, 1.1 blocks, 1.7 TO. Those are very useful numbers, and I think the 1st round upside is still there.

Overall, trade rumors freak me out more when a vet is involved, because I've been conditioned to associate that with phantom injuries, rest days, and shutdowns. I don't fear those things with Collins. It's kinda frustrating he's ranked at #21 on Yahoo, but he's a value on ESPN at #46.

No doubt they will showcase him if they cant agree on money no way he walks for nothing. Issue with keeping guys fresh for playoffs is you have to get there first and the Hawks still stink at defense. Capela and Dunn are the only 2 dudes who can flat out defend and i doubt they got Capela for nothing, he is still only 26 and with Trae will be real good

10 teams are eligible for the play-in tournament/playoffs. Cleveland, New York, Detroit, and Charlotte have little to no chance of keeping up with the Hawks. I think the Wizards, Magic, and Bulls will be fighting for that last playoff spot. Either way, I'm not worried about the Hawks' chances in what is pretty much a field of 11.

I was not targeting him, but he fell in my lap in the 4th, and had to pull the trigger.

I don't think he'll bring 1st or 2nd round value, but I see him bringing 3rd round value, seeing that he seeks a big contract.

He's talented, and I don't think the arrival of Capela will significantly reduce his value.

Same story here took Ayton 2nd round, Nurk 3rd round... and although I didn't want to, I had to take him 4th round. Preseason stats are fine

I loved Collins this year before Gallo came in, but IMO. I think we might see Gallo slide over to the SF position often, and possibly have Collins switch over to C instead of Capela at times depending on if they want to run smaller.

I do agree though that Collins will probably suffer the most in the REB category. I imagine you might see a dip from last years' 10.1 to maybe the 7-8 range if Capela stays healthy.

Anyone know why he only got 18 minutes tonight with Capela out?  I didn't watch the game, but I saw the score was like 25 points or something at halftime.  Was it just because they pulled the starters because it was a blow out?

Foul trouble he had 2 fouls early then followed up with another two in the early 3rd. Just one of those games, he’ll be alright

There's actually a lot going on with this guy considering he is on a contract year where he is seeking a max contract and he rejected Atlanta's contract offer earlier. New players came in that are considered crucial for a playoff run. Some background drama last year from drugs. Finally, big night coming for John Collins with no Capela (wasn't there last game either) or Gallo. Last game, he had reduced minutes.

What do you guys feel about him at this point a game in?

He didn't have reduced minutes, he was in foul trouble, picked 4 quick fouls. Then in the last quarter it was a blowout. He's going to have a big year no matter how stacked they got. He's playing for a max contract, baring any injury I think he's going to be one of the steals of the draft if you got him in the 30+ range.

Last game shouldn't really mean much for the points mentioned. I sure do want him to ball out of his mind this season. I pretty much had to take him bc he dropped to the fourth round! If he does ball out, hell of a value pick.

Dude already in foul trouble lol. Trading him the second he goes off.

i swear im frustrated every season watching him pickup quick two fouls, always want to give up on him...but dude is persistent in doing major damage and always finishes his games strong with a fantastic line
