Mitchell Robinson 2020-2021 Outlook

Recommended Posts

Ranked #47th overall in Yahoo and I'm not sure he can even reach that by season's end.  Noel is in town, and even when he did get starting minutes last year he was making the same bone headed mistakes.  Not sure how Thibs plans on using him, but might pass on him this year unless he slides.

On the plus side - with thibs he might actually get 30+ minutes  On the negative side - he will probably foul out in 15 minutes

Is this the mitchell robinson thread?

Bruh, I literally went to get a snack and he was gone.

I agree with the boneheadedness risk but I don't see why he can't reach the same ranking last year.

Noel is just another 1 year signing and looks like the rest of the league doesn't want him either (Knicks smart enough to give him more money than he's earned the last 2 years? In 1 year?)

And you know about Mitch Rob... people can learn the game, especially 22 year olds.

His stats are lopsided - look at BBM rankings, some dark red and some bright green. To say honestly I don't like a player who's value is mostly based on blocks and low TO. Even FG% is not a big value if he takes 5-6 shots per game (I hope this year he takes maybe 7-8). Rebounds are not high for big man, but I know that per-36 he has 11 rebounds. Just the problem is that hardly he plays more than 26-28 minutes (last season 23). I think I can't draft him because he is too low in my ranks and will be picked earlier.

Yup,I don't want to spend a mid-round pick to draft a block specialist only but hurts you in many catalog

Super stacked? Noel and... Spellman? Randle, Obi (and MKG) will play PF.

Yeah, logjam was the word that should've been used. This is Knicks at its finest. Coaches can't help but split minutes when there's a mediocre player backing up a promising young player -- always happens to **** teams with bad coaches.

I'm not too worried about Obi/Randle/MKG playing PF minutes, since I can't see them playing at C nor can I see Mitch playing PF. Noel is purely his back-up, but will see enough minutes to have some value himself. However, what's holding Mitch back isn't the other players on this roster, but rather his foul rate. Hopefully that'll become a little bit better this year.

While he does give you early/mid-round value, he's a pretty peculiar case IMO because he's such a specialist. He'll help you win blocks easily when paired with another good big man, and his impact on FG% is pretty good despite only taking a few shots a game. The low TO are also nice when you get average blocks, good FG en stellar BPG.

He's one of those cases where you pick him up immediately if he drops a few rounds (or when you can get him on discount in auction), because well.. the value is definitely there. But drafting him at his value isn't really worth it, because he sets you back in several other cats which will be quite a task to compensate for seeing how you'd have to draft him pretty early on if you're doing so at his overal value.

Bottom line: someone is either going to get a steal drafting him or overpay. I don't see a lot of middle ground with him.

Reached with MitchRob in the 4th round last year in H2H 9 cats and ultimately regretted it.  It's almost as if he's load managed because it seems like every week or two there's a game where he puts up nothing and you look into it to see what the issue is.... and... oh... of course: he would be in some kind of absurdist foul trouble situation (like 5 fouls in less than 20 mins kinda foul trouble)

At the end of the day his 2.0 BPG was a disappointing dropoff from his rookie 2.4 BPG and his 7.0 RPG was also extremely problematic for a C who'll likely command a 4th or 5th round pick investment.  Depending on your league, you'll likely get 4-6 C picks and burning one of those spots on an early-mid round guy who isn't dependable for much more than BLK and low-volume FG% isn't the greatest proposition unless you really are targeting the TO category lol

M-Rob is prime example of a guy who's in a horrible situation, but always seems to get catapulted into the ADP Top-40 based off "hype".

He's on a long list of players that I have listed under "I need to see him perform before I ever draft him".

His best month last season was December, when he averaged 24 MPG, 68.5 FG% /  11 PPG / 8 REB / 1.9 BLKS and Low T/O

He gives you absolutely nothing in the way of FT%, 3PM, AST and STLS.

In a 9-CAT league, he's basically gives you FG%, 10 PPG / 8 REB / 2 BLKS

Simply put, if you're in a deep league, he's not a guy I'm taking with my 3rd or 4th pick. If he falls to me at ADP 60-80, then cool.

He has 1.0 stls in December... how many steals do you want from a C before he gives you "something" in steals?  Gobert got 1.0 steals and 2 blocks in 33 mins.

In 9 cat, you can pair guys like Gobert and Mitch Rob, then build your roster around stls, scoring, and TO. Then you win FG% BLK STL PTS and TO's. That's why people draft guys like this with Elite FG and blocks...

I dont like punting 4 cats.  Your whole house of cards come crashing down if ANY of your guys fall to injury.

I don’t my center getting steals. Too many steals. It’s a waste.

I’m curious, does this guy actually play defense or at least try to? I know he’s in foul trouble a lot, but that’s a common issue for young bigs. But is he actually a good or decent defender? I’ve never owned him and don’t watch many Knick games.
