Jacob deGrom 2021 Outlook

Guessing the MRI won’t show anything. They’ll send him to a specialist who won’t find anything unusual. They’ll give him two weeks off and then test it with a bullpen session. If I had to guess the strain he had at the beginning of the year never healed properly and his body is adjusting to put strain throughout the rest of his mechanics. The worst part is that he won’t feel it in his bullpen sessions it’ll only show up when he goes max effort in a game.

Him/himself & his future

I’ve gone full lurk mode because all my posts tend to be irrelevant and get deleted, but I have to say that this reminds me of the box of cereal my wife just purchased.  It’s purple and it has the exotic bird from Fruit Loops and I think the Keebler elves?  And even the tiger from Frosted Flakes.  And there’s all kinds of nifty pronouns listed on the side.

Well hopefully deGod can wake up from these injuries and be more woke than the cereal.

I really hope, like most here, that he just felt something and thought it was best to shut it down.  Still, I don't know what else it will take as a wake up call, both for the Mets and HIM personally.  At some point, the player also has to listen to his body, especially his throwing arm.   Take the DL stint and just rest JD.

Players can't put themselves on the IL.  It is basically up to the recommendations of the Mets so-called (hahaha) "medical staff" which means that unless his arm literally falls off they will send him back out sooner than later.

I believe this is a great time to shut down for a bit. The substance scandal is in full swing. If his success IS tied the a substance it won't be now. If he comes back with a significant drop in spin rate that leads to diminished success.......injury is to blame.

Not saying it's the case but, if it is....DeGrom is brilliant.

I’m calling my shot that he gets injured this year.  I’ve always been really paranoid of Degrom getting TJ or something especially because he throws so hard and is on the Mets.  He keeps increasing in velocity and... it may be irrational, but I’m just worried.  This take could age horrifically

if degrom was to not throw another pitch in the Majors he would not be quilified to be on the HOF Ballot. IMO he ain't close to a HOF if Kluber ain't.

I understand that.  But DeGrom keeps saying he is feeling 'fine', and 'ready to go'.  Clearly, he also has some say in this.  And if you know the Mets don't have your best interests, and/or are inept, then some responsibility also falls on him.  He's not a shrinking violet.  I have zero confidence in the Mets treating this properly, so I'm hoping he takes some initiative here.

It's a REAL long shot "prediction" - hard thrower getting hurt with previous arm issues.  Magical prediction I tell you!  Simply magical!

DeGrom is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his sore right shoulder Thursday, but he said after exiting his start in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Cubs that he's "confident that this is nothing [serious]," Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

I'm a fan of the vague "gets injured this year" prediction. You can't argue with that! Misses a month? Told ya! Misses three months? Told ya! Misses a start? Told ya!

I'm encouraged by his belief that it's nothing serious, and pray that the Mets skip his next start at the very least.   Hopefully he doesn't need a DL trip, but even if he doesn't, skip a turn for the sake of sensibility.

So I checked Fantrax’s blurb for this guy and they said that he’s had right side tightness, flexor tendinitis, and now this shoulder injury.  In the tweet Degrom says that he had flexor tendinitis, this shoulder injury, and an elbow injury.  Are these injuries getting conflated or is it four separate things going on here?  And am I crazy or do I not remember an elbow injury?

The flexor tendinitis should be the elbow injury, as far as I know. I believe you're right; before that, it was just ongoing issues with his lat.

Can we get only one "The mets are going to start him again and hurt him again" joke, we'll all like that post, and this way we don't have to get a whole page of them? 😹

This is good news.
