Jacob deGrom 2021 Outlook

Maybe all these injuries are adding up due to over compensation. Hopefully this shoulder thing is minor. I do hope he misses one start to ensure he gets more rest. We need deGod to be healthy from the time he starts next until the end of the season! We may witness a historic season if this is the case (Cy Young, MVP, breaking Gibson's ERA record).

Would his next start be against Atlanta?  I'm trying to think of the most likely "MLB'esque" scenario that could happen.  Would it be deGrom losing his grip on a fastball due to not having any spider tack, hitting and injuring Acuna, then later injuring himself while batting?

The guy is hurting a new body part every time he throws 50 pitches. He’s already got a diagnosis (lat strain) with a book of: 1) real hard to detect with an MRI 2) compensating can transfer a lot of pitching work from a long back muscle to vulnerable inflection points like shoulders and elbows.

How is it that guys living in mom’s basements know: “Rest a month or so, then ramp up slowly,” but these NYC specialists can’t get past: “Sure Jacob, the MRIs are negative, the injuries might not be related.” The last guy you want for a doctor is yes-man.

Heh, only in Metworld has it come to this - "He's getting a second opinion because everything came back clean".

Both MRIs come up clean. now its up to deGrom to suck it up and pitch without leaving games early cause of a little soreness.

They have three doubleheaders in the next week, so they would really have to put him on the IL.  Of course, they’re 5 games in front so they should be thinking about October health.

Me thinks if all testing comes back normal, he's seen two Doctors that clear him, he's going to pitch.  I realize we all rag on the Mets health org - and we absolutely should - but it all comes down to medical testing/what the Doctors are telling them to do/not do.  Should be interesting how they proceed - and we should have some information here today/tomorrow at the very latest I'd imagine.

You get to call up a guy for a double header for an extra spot.

If he's not feeling 100%, just because an MRI came back clean, doesn't mean you just throw him out there to pitch... I mean thats pretty obvious right?  I think skipping at least one start makes a ton of sense.

A LOT of factors there:

1.  The testing all comes back clean meaning... he doesn't have a physical issue;  medical professionals look at him physically all clearing him

2.  How does he show in playing pitch/catch, his bullpen sessions etc;  does he have pain or no pain?

3.  Does skipping a start, if he's healthy, help?  IF he's healthy and he has a start skipped that doesn't mean he won't pitch a few days later and have similar issues

Huge gray/cloudy area here.

What I'd say is that testing comes back clean shows we can't see a physical issue.  But there still can be one, the testing is not perfect or all-inclusive.  So that is one of the reasons your number two is also important.
