Pitcher substances/spin rate crackdown

They didn’t even inspect the glove after. They just went off the initial report.

What an absolute ******** clown show of a joke this league is. Manfred is the stupidest commissioner in sports. No wonder the MLB ratings have been declining for two decades.

I agree.

They didn't need to check what the substance was. It was in the glove which is against the rules no matter what the substance was.

How on earth could a pitcher using any substance on his hands avoid transferring that substance to his glove?

No idea but that is the rule. Helps explain why they took his glove though. And there must be some way or else more pitchers would be having a ten day vacation. Strange rule and to compound the strangeness it is up to the umpires discretion which helps explain why all 4 umpires were involved in decision to confiscate the glove.

The next step is does Santiago appeal the suspension and would the players union back him up. We are living in The Doors song Strange Days.

That’s stupid. If a pitcher uses rosin it’s going to get in the glove. It’s likely to also get sticky since you know, humans sweat.  That would be the entire point of checking.

Of course they’re not going to check because they either lost the glove since they put it in a trash bag like a middle school game or they don’t want to find out it was rosin and look like idiots.

It doesn’t change the fact that this is an absolutely embarrassing league. It’s run by old heads that have no idea how the modern world works yet at the same time every time they try to make a change they f--- it up. Baseball will be dead in 10 years at this rate. Bauer gave them a million ways to fix this **** but they have their head up their a** and don’t listen. Why even make this change out of nowhere mid season? We’ve already seen players hurt and pitches sailing into the moon. Can’t blame the pitchers either when the game allowed this forever but once runs go down due to the MLB being pathetic they yank the rug under the pitchers.

Enough ranting but it’s just mind boggling how badly the sport is run.

But how embarrassing would it be if the first guy caught turned out to have done nothing wrong?  Can't have that!

That is why the next step is how the players union reacts. They do nothing it validates what MLB is doing, they have a hearing to reduce the suspension and that validates MLB's right to make the rule and the punishment. If they try to reduce the suspension and win that still validates the rule and the punishment.

The way I see it MLB was fairly smart in the handling this far. Also lucky(?) that it wasn't a name pitcher first.

As for the lack of control I watch a lot of baseball and haven't noticed any more hit batters or wild pitches then before. With the amount of pitcher injuries a two week time span it would be hard to attribute any injury to the loss of "tacky".
