"Why don't you come over here and say that?!"

I hate closers - I feel like a dog chasing my tail in a circle. 😡

I’ve been watching the Tigers game. Clase was the only one warming up a few days ago when it looked like the Indians might tie or take the lead. Today, Karinchak was the only guy warming up in th

We should have known Melancon was the likely closer.  It is not always the guy with the best stuff that gets the role.  He wasn't terrible last season either.

I was listening to the Padres radio broadcast when Pagan came in the seventh and the announcers were even surprised.  They said Tingler likes to keep things close to the vest.

Melancon 1-2-3 save hitting 93 on the gun.

Funny what happens when you put a closer in the closer role

They save some games, win some and lose some?

Davis gets the save. Holland or Davis moving forward?

I would think Holland gets the next op.  Huge k in the 8th with the bases loaded. Leash will be pretty short though.

Wade got the last two outs of the game, both with nasty Ks.  I don’t believe Matheny ever said Holland was his closer.  Seemed like all the tea leaves were suggesting a committee to start at least.  Holland may end up getting next opp, but he’s never been announced as the closer.

Hard to take anything away from the KC game with Meals having no clue of the zone today.

Meh's Sleeper Candidates for Saves in 2021

I'm deeply allergic to paying up for saves and this year is no different. Here are some of my favorite sleeper and deep sleeper relievers that I'm either drafting really late or keeping a close eye on to work their way into saves:

7. Wade Davis, KC. This is a real longshot, but Dayton Moore has a knack for pulling veteran relievers off the scrap heap and making them great again. He'll have some dudes to pass, including Holland who looked great last year, but his velocity is up this spring and stranger things have happened.

As a Royals fan I’ve watched a lot of Wade Davis over the years and the version I saw tonight looked a lot like the one from 3-4 years ago, not the one that got torched in Coors Field the past couple years. I’ve added several shares to see how this plays out.

is there any reason to think Diekman can run away with the job?

Certainly imo. Rosie has a shoulder issue, that is nothing but trouble...IF he shakes it then he is for sure the guy, but those are unpredictable.

He had bad years in COL. It wasn't just the huge field though. Dips in velocity consecutive years.

94 to 95.

Here’s the 90mph cutter or slider that he spotted in the perfect location to end the game.

There’s plenty of good reasons to be skeptical being that it was just one outing, but this could be another Dayton Moore reclamation project success story.
