oh man.....Zombie prospect pokes his head out of the grave with a three strike out save. WTF?

Dude was hyped as a kid then fell off the map. Can Atlanta repurpose him into a serviceable pitcher? Would love to believe because he is only 27 and deserves a shot. Whos the pitching coach in Alana ta?

There has been a few misses down there. Toussaint missed, but still has promise. Who knows with pitching.

Newcomb with a 3 K save gets an eyebrow raise.

SP, LR, MR, SU, CL...he's like a utility pitcher.  He won't perform any role well enough to be relied upon regularly, but he has experience at all of them and you can roll him out there for a day.

Just wondering if Newcomb can figure it out and become a starter. Atlanta could use one.

Both Soroka and Toussaint are both on the injury list. I guess they can call up one of the kids and see how that goes.

Looking at ATL bullpen Newcomb is the one guy that could become a starter again.

Guy added three ticks to his FB — averaging 96 and touching 99 on the gun — making him one of the hardest throwing lefties in the game all of a sudden. Spinning his CB just north of 3000 rpm. 1 BBE in 48 pitches (sure it was a home run, but point: people aren’t putting his pitches into play).

Downside: 3 lefties in front of him in the pecking order — Smith, Minter (both pitched in the opener before his S), and apparently Matzek (who threw 29 pitches the night before and is topping 100). Of course SS caveats apply, and he’s always given up a smidge too many BBS.

I’m adding in holds leagues on pedigree, stuff and SP/RP eligibility.

He has typically been brought in as a long relief guy because he can go 1+ innings if needed.

One last flicker of interest. Newcomb is destiny as a RP .....not even high leverage.....middle relief.

Can the Braves make him a starter again? I see N. Pivetta turn his career around with a change of se-nary. Maybe Newcomb needs a new pitching coach?

Anyways, Im just throwing this out there for baseball fans interested in the fringe pitchers. Lets keep it real.
